WARNING ! WARNING ! WARNING ! This definitely is not one of my videos on hiking or gear reviews. It's not even Hiker B S. It's giving my wife a little YouTube time showing her at Missouri Star Quilt Co. One of the largest and most popular quilters supply companies. Kinda like me going to REI or some other outfitters store and looking at EVERYTHING. I'm very blessed and she deserves her time. Check out this excellent, cheap, ultralight 1 person tent from Walmart. It's not available in stores, but you can easily order it on-line for $49. Sometimes cheap can be impressive, and I was quite surprised. Also watch till the end for another GIVEAWAY...."Yay!"

This video review is geared more for the entry level hiker/backpacker, or budget minded person assembling their gear but this has been a great piece of equipment over the years that has been used a lot so I thought I would pass my thoughts along on it. I've seen other comments saying they have pulled the grommets out of it, but when I was a young man I pulled the bumper half way off a 1965 Ford pickup too ! Maybe unnecessary force. Kind of a lengthy review, but there's so much to talk about on this 2 lb. 50L frameless backpack. A revamp of the Jam 50 from the Golite days. Demetri Coupounas of Golite has opened My Trail Company and are making available many of the old Golite products with a few improvements, sold directly to us, saving the price of the middle man.

A look at a very scenic part of Texas, in the Texas Hill Country. Lost Maples is home to an ancient stand of Big Tooth Maples that have survived here since the ice age, and during the changing of the leaves, one of the most beautiful places in this part of Texas.

To much rain and flooding for the Ouachita Trail in Oklahoma and Arkansas, so here's a last minute backup plan. The Guadalupe Ridge Trail in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Very seldom used trail that runs all the way to the Texas end of the mountains. If you look this trail up it says 8 to 12 miles....Don't believe it ! You can get 38 miles out of this one, "averaging" 6,000 ft.

I haven't ridden in 6 yrs so I'm really looking forward to this. There is a prompt soon into the video showing how far to jump ahead if you don't want to watch the entire assembly but it may be interesting to those looking at this or any other fat bike from Bikes Direct. New Years Eve hike up McKittrick Ridge from the canyon below. A 2,600 ft climb that started out difficult and strenuous until the rain and high winds hit. Then it got exciting ! Not great on a trail that has quite a few precarious portions on the face of the mountain. Obviously I made it ! :-)

Take a look at the Gossamer Gear Murmur 36 liter HYPERLIGHT backpack. AT 8.2 ounces without hipbelt, 13.2 ounces with the hip belt, this pack is insanely light and carries a light load unbelievably well. When full, the sit pad and load still places the weight on your hips as you would expect from conventional packs, making a light load even easier to carry. 40 Denier Robic nylon and 70 D Robic nylon are used to build this pack. A very generous mesh front pocket and tall collar means you can carry a fairly large load for such a light pack. 15 lb is the recommended load but can go up to 20 lb. If you know someone into UL or looking for a new pack, please share this with them and as always I appreciate you taking the time to watch. I remember as a young child my Grandmothers on both sides of my family were the best southern cooks. One of my favorite meals was breakfast with hot biscuits and tomato gravy. I'm going to cook up a dutch oven full of biscuits and a skillet full of good ol tomato gravy and I hope you enjoy. You'll see that I use metal utensils while cooking in our cast iron, AND tomatoes (acidic) !!!!!! But don't worry. Our cast is seasoned very well and it will not hurt any of it. Thanks for watching.

What a difference a day makes when you're backpacking. Started out really windy at over 7,700 ft. but subsided soon after descending the mountain a ways, and lots of sunshine. What a great vista filled trail in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

Michelle and I ditched the tent for a chance to stay at the historic Indian Lodge built in the 30's by the Civilian Conservation Corps entirely from local materials. Located in Keesey Canyon at 5,000 ft. of elevation , the lodge was expanded in the mid 60's but we were able to snag reservations in the original section and it was so cool ! I hope you come along on our visit. Thanks for watching.

Michelle and I review the One Pot Wonder meal. Beef Stroganoff, from Hungry Hikers. Out of Portland, Oregon They are making award winning complete meals in a bag and we are not sponsored so our thoughts are unbiased. Everyone's reasons and methods for getting outdoors is different. Some like to do more or less backpack style camping. Some enjoy more minimal type backpacking, so you have to decide for yourself does this meal fall into your particular niche. If you do enjoy carrying more equipment (canister or wood stove, large pot) and like tasty "cooked" meals, this may be a great option for you. 12 minutes of cook time, with constant stirring (you don't want it sticking to the bottom of your pot) will provide a tasty, filling meal. Thanks for watching and stick around for Michelle's bloopers at the end. https://www.hungryhikers.com/

All outdoors people should give this a try. You will truly be surprised at the taste. If you're hiking or backpacking in pine forests you have a steady supply at hand and it's so easy. Pine needle tea has a pleasant taste and smell It is rich in vitamin C (4 to5 times the concentration of vitamin C found in oranges or lemons) and can bring relief to heart disease, varicose veins, skin complaints and fatigue Vitamin C is an immune system booster and can help to fight illness and infections. Pine needle tea also contains high levels of Vitamin A, which is good for your eyesight, improves hair and skin regeneration and improves red blood cell production. It can be used as an expectorant for coughs and to help relieve chest congestion; it is also good for sore throats. It brings you clarity and mental clearness. It can help with depression, obesity, allergies and high blood pressure. Pine needles contain antioxidants. These reduce free radicals, which are harmful to humans and can cause disease. Research shows that pine needle tea can help to slow the ageing process. Let them soak in boiling water on your stove and it will add a crisp pine smell all over the house. WHO KNEW RIGHT ! WARNING !!! Do not use needles from Yew , Norfolk Island Pine, and Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) "Music by Evan Schaeffer https://soundcloud.com/evanschaeffer." Today I'm giving my trusty Golite Z10 Sleeping bag (850 fill) a much deserved cleaning. After years of use, sweat, oils from your skin, dust and dirt eventually affect your downs ability to loft properly and keep you warm to it's original ability/rating. It's a little nerve wracking because if something goes wrong, this bag cannot be replaced since Golite is no longer in business. MyTrail ( also Demetri Coupounas of Golite) does not sell sleeping bags. This is the best bag I have ever owned. I have the Enlightened Equipment Enigma quilt which is great, but for the really cold nights my Z10 delivers a toasty warm sleep every time. I'm sure some have washed their down in regular detergent but that will strip your down of their natural oils that protect the feathers. I chose NIKWAX to clean and treat my bag. I hope this helps if your down is ready to be cleaned and restored to it's full loft. Cold weather is on the way. Let's get ready for it because THE BEST THING FOR YOUR INSIDE IS OUTSIDE ! NIKWAX at REI where I got mine using dividends https://www.rei.com/product/890310/nikwax-down-wash-direct Although it's not available anymore, here is a description of my bag in Backpacker Magazine from 2013 https://www.backpacker.com/gear/golite-men-s-z10-three-season-sleeping-bag

I can never escape the high winds on a trip, but join me as I ride my fat bike to Lake Mineral Wells State Park in Texas, along the trailway that once was a railroad from the 1890s. It's said in 1899 that 33,000 people rode the train to the town of Mineral Wells to soak up the healing mineral water the town was famous for. After the building of the Baker Hotel it was common place for the rich, dignitaries, politicians, movie stars, and foreign travelers to visit here for the water. The Lake Mineral Wells Trailway is 20 miles long and the reclaimed railroad bed is covered with crushed limestone rock and makes a very easy trail to navigate. Like a Rails To Trail project, this trail is under the Texas Parks and Wildlife. It has water and restrooms at both ends and middle with gentle grades and curves through cattle and farming country. During the winter and colder weather you can pretty much take your pick of campsites in the park which also has hike, bike and equestrian trails. While there is primitive hike in campsites, bikes are not allowed on that trail.
