How to Apply Style in HTML

01:23
This tutorial will walk you through the concept of styling sheet in HTML and how to use its attribute in a HTML page. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Style tag is the most commonly used tag for web designers for applying styles and themes of a web page. It is used to define a format and style of fonts, colors and their alignments. In HTML, we first have to create a style sheet using a CSS format. This style sheet contains pre-defined formatting. After creating a sheet, all we have to do is to simply call out the sheet in a HTML page source code by creating a link. Here in this tutorial, we will teach you how to apply style in html page using a CSS style sheet. Furthermore, we will teach you how how to link style sheets. Step # 1 -- Create a Style Sheet In this tutorial we will guide you on how to apply style in html. First of all, we are going to need a style sheet in a ".css" format which we have already created here as "Style.css". This style sheet contains pre-defined styles for your HTML page. Step # 2 -- Link the Style Sheet in your HTML Page Now open up the source code of the page in a Text editor to edit it. Once done, insert a "Link" tag in the "Head" section of the page by entering the following syntax as, link rel = "stylesheet" type = "text/css" href = "style.css" / In this syntax, the "Rel" code shows the relationship between your HTML page and the style sheet. The "Type" code is a string for using the css over text and the "href" code refers to the style sheet name which you want to apply on the page. In this manner, you can link style sheets and work with them accordingly. Step # 3 -- View the Changes Once done, go to the "File" menu, save your changes and refresh the browser to view the new style applied on your HTML page.

Where should the script tag be placed in html

09:40
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/11/where-should-script-tag-be-placed-in.html In this video we will discuss, where should the script tag be placed in the html. Should it be placed in the body or head section of the page. In general the script tag can be placed either in the head or body section. Let's look at a few examples : Example 1 : Script tag in the head section [html] [head] [script type="text/javascript"] alert("Welcome to JavaScript Tutorial"); [/script] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [/form] [/body] [/html] Example 2 : Script tag in the body section [html] [head] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [/form] [script type="text/javascript"] alert("Welcome to JavaScript Tutorial"); [/script] [/body] [/html] In Example 1 we placed the script tag in the head section and in Example 2, we placed it in body section. In both the cases JavaScript works as expected. Example 3 : Sets the background color of the TextBox to red. [html] [head] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [/form] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").style.backgroundColor = "red"; [/script] [/body] [/html] Example 4 : This is same as Example 3, except we moved the script tag to the head section. In this case the script will not work as expected. Depending on the browser you are using you get one of the following JavaScript error. Firefox - TypeError: document.getElementById(...) is null Chrome - Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'style' of null IE - Unable to get property 'style' of undefined or null reference To see these JavaScript errors press F12 which launches developer tools. F12 works for all the 3 browsers. [html] [head] [script type="text/javascript"] document.getElementById("TextBox1").style.backgroundColor = "red"; [/script] [/head] [body] [form id="form1" runat="server"] [asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"][/asp:TextBox] [/form] [/body] [/html] Why did the JavaScript did not work in this case JavaScript code is present before the textbox control. By the time the JavaScript code is executed, the textbox is still not loaded into browser DOM (Document Object Model). This is the reason JavaScript can't find the textbox and throws a NULL reference error. In Part 6, we discussed that, in general it is a good practice to store JavaScript in an external .js file. So, if the JavaScript is present in an external file and if you are referencing it on a page using [script] element, where should such [script] element be placed. To answer this question, first let's understand what happens when a browser starts loading a web page. 1. The browser starts parsing the HTML 2. When the parser encounters a [script] tag that references an external JavaScript file. The parser stops parsing the HTML and the browser makes a request to download the script file. Until the download is complete, the parser is blocked from parsing the rest of the HTML on the page. 3. When the download is complete, that's when the parser will resume to parse the rest of the HTML. This means the page loading is stopped until all the scripts are loaded which affects user experience. In general, the suggested good practice is to place the [script] tag just before the closing [body] tag, so it doesn't block the HTML parser. However, modern browsers support async and defer attributes on scripts. These attributes tell the browser it's safe to continue parsing while the scripts are being downloaded. But even with these attributes, from a performance standpoint it is still better to place [script] tag just before closing [body] tag. According to HTTP/1.1 specification browsers download no more than two components in parallel. So, if the page has several images to download and if you place [script] tags at the top of the page, the script files start to download first which blocks the images download which adds to the total page load time.

Setting up bootstrap

09:13
setup bootstrap using bootstrap with asp.net web forms simple bootstrap web page simple bootstrap page bootstrap sample page code bootstrap example page bootstrap files list bootstrap 3 folder structure twitter bootstrap folder structure how to use bootstrap in html step by step how to include bootstrap in html bootstrap first page template first bootstrap page In this video we will discuss how to download, set up and create our first bootstrap web page To get started with Bootstrap the first step is to download Bootstrap from http://getbootstrap.com. This website also has all the documentaion you need to get started with bootstrap. As of this recording the version is 3.3.6. With the download you get a single zip folder which contains all the required bootstrap components. Unzip the ZIP folder and you should see the following folder structure. Notice there are 3 sub-folders (css, fonts & js). Let us understand the use of each file, folder by folder. Files in "css" folder bootstrap.css - This is the core css for BootStrap that defines all the style for various controls and components bootstrap.css.map - When debugging the minified code, the line numbers do not refer to the orignal files. The file that has the .map extension which is also called as source map file fixes this problem by allowing the web debuggers to refer to the original context from where the code was generated. This file is useful during development. bootstrap.min.css - This is the compressed version meaning all the whitespaces, line breaks and any other extra characters have been removed. As a result the size of the minified file is smaller than the non-minified file. Minified version is usually used on a production server for efficient download where as the non minified version is used in development environment as it is more readable and easy to debug if there are issues. bootstrap.min.css.map - Source map file for bootstrap.min.css bootstrap-theme.css - As the name suggests this is the theme for bootstrap. Adding the core bootstrap.css is enough for bootstrap to work. The theme file is optional and is usually used for a visually enhanced experience. For example if you want 3D effects, gradients, shadows etc. bootstrap-theme.css.map - Source map file for bootstrap-theme.css bootstrap-theme.min.css - Minified version of bootstrap-theme.css bootstrap-theme.min.css.map - Source map file for bootstrap-theme.min.css Files in "fonts" folder There are 5 different font files from Glyphicons. These 5 different files are just different format of the Glyphicons font, to support different browsers. Files in "js" folder : These JavaScript files are optional. These are required if you want to use bootstrap widgets like picture carousel, dropdown menus, collapsible accordian etc. One important thing to keep in mind is that boostrap JavaScript has a dependency on jQuery, so a reference to jQuery must also exist on the page where you want to use Bootstrap. bootstrap.js - This is the non-minified readable version that is usually used during development. bootstrap.min.js - Minified version of bootstrap.js optimised for faster download. This is the version that is usually used in a production environment. npm.js - npm is a file from Node.js and is used for npm installing bootstrap. If you are new to Node.js, don't worry, this is not going to come in the way to understand bootstrap. For this course I am going to use Visual Studio 2013 as the editor. You can use any editor of your choice. Here are the steps to create your first web page with Bootstrap 1. Create a new empty ASP.NET web application project. Name it BootstrapDemo 2. To use bootstrap in your website, copy the folder that contains 3 sub-folders (css, fonts, & js) in your website project folder. 3. Add a new HTML file to the project. Name it index.html. 3. There is a basic template available at the following link. Copy and paste the template code in index.html http://getbootstrap.com/getting-started/#template Please note : The viewport meta tag ensure proper rendering and touch zooming on a mobile device. CSS Lesson 3 - CSS Styles

08:02
CSS Types: Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language. CSS can be added to HTML elements in 3 ways: Inline : An inline style may be used to apply a unique style for a single element. To use inline styles, add the style attribute to the relevant element. The style attribute can contain any CSS property. Internal : Internal styles are embedded in the head section of the HTML document and are defined inside a style tag. External : An external style sheet is ideal when the style is applied to many pages. With an external style sheet, you can change the look of an entire Web site by changing one file. ankpro ankpro training Asp.net MVC C# C sharp Bangalore Rajajinagar Selenium Coded UI Mobile automation testing Mobile testing JQuery JavaScript .Net

How to Apply CSS

02:02
Follow this step by step guide to learn the basic technique of creating a styling sheet in web page and applying it on different parts of it. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ CSS or Cascading Style Sheets is text file in a ".css" format which contains pre-defined style and formatting of HTML pages. It consists of Fonts name, their styles, colors, spaces, and other useful attributes. When calling a Style sheet in a source code of a webpage, it simply applies its pre-defined style on the Web page while displaying on the browser. There are other methods as well for applying css styling on a web page. You can also write a styling code in an html page instead of creating it separately. Here we will show you how to apply css by creating it within a source code of a HTML page. Step # 1 -- Insert a Paragraph tag In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to apply css on a HTML page. First of all, open up the source code of your HTML page in a Text Editor. Now insert a New Paragraph by enclosing the text in "P" and "/P" tags. Once done, save your changes and refresh the browser to view the newly added paragraph on the page. Step # 2 -- Insert the Style Tag Now in the next step, move over to the "Head" tag and insert the "Style" tag in it by entering the code as style p {line-height: 2;} /style Once done, save your changes and again refresh the browser and you will see that now the selected paragraph is having more line space. Step # 3 -- Create a Class in HTML page Now in this step, create a HTML Class by typing the code as p.first: first-line {font-variant: small-caps;} Once you have entered the code, save again and refresh the browser. Here you will see that there will be no change on the formatting of the page. This is because after creating a class, we need to call it on certain objects to apply its effect on them. Step # 4 -- Call the Class on a Paragraph For applying it in the CSS, go back to the source file, move over the paragraph tag and insert the code as Class= "first" Where "Class" code is used to call the class property while "First" is the name of the class which you want call on your paragraph. Once you save your changes and refresh the browser, you will see that the first line of the paragraph is now converted into all capitals as defined in the class. In this manner, you can easily be applying css on your own webpage.

CSS Tutorial For Beginners 35 - Paragraph Spacing

Yo ninjas! In this CSS tutorial for beginners I'll walk you through how to space out paragraph tags on a page using the margin property. Consider this a gentle introduction into the box model in CSS. In the next lesson we'll learn even more about margins and the box model property. When applying spacing between paragraph tags, it's normally best just to apply a margin to either the bottom or the top of the tag. I opt for bottom, but this is your choice. Anyway, peace out, have fun and keep coding :). Bootstrap Grid System

10:38
bootstrap 3 grid example bootstrap 3 grid system bootstrap 3 columns layout bootstrap grid system example bootstrap 3 page layout bootstrap page layout examples bootstrap 3 layout examples bootstrap page layout tutorial bootstrap grid layout tutorial bootstrap column layout how to use bootstrap 3 grid system In this video we will discuss, How to create page layouts using bootstrap grid system. One of the very important concept that we need to understand in Bootstrap is it's Grid System. The Grid system is used for creating page layouts through a series of rows and columns. The Grid System consists of 12 columns. This grid system is so flexible that you can create any page layout that you want. Let us now see how to create a 3 column layout using the Bootstrap Grid System. The page should be divided into 3 columns with 1:4:1 ratio. One important thing to keep in mind here is that, if we add the 3 numbers in the ratio (1:4:1), the sum should be equal to 12, because the bootstrap grid system consists of 12 columns. This means if the LEFT SIDE BAR column is 2 units, the MAIN CONTENT AREA column should be 8 units and the RIGHT SIDE BAR column should be 2 units. So when we add these 3 numbers (2 Units + 8 Units + 2 Units), we get 12 units. Bootstrap includes several grid classes for creating layouts for different devices like mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, etc. The table below shows the available bootstrap grid classes that you can use to create grid column layouts ranging from extra small devices like mobile phones to large devices like large desktop screens. We will discuss these different classes in detail with examples in a later video. For now let's use .col-md-* class to create a 3 column layout. There are 3 simple steps to create the 3 column layout that we want, using the bootstrap 12 column grid system 1. First, create a container. We do this by creating a [div] element using the bootstrap .container class. All the rows will be within this container. 2. Second, create a row within the container. We do this by creating a [div] element using the bootstrap .row class. 3. Finally within the row we create the 3 columns that we need. We do this by creating [div] elements using any of the bootstrap grid classes (.col-xs-*, .col-sm-*, .col-md-* & .col-lg-*). In this example we are using col-xs-* class. Please note that here I am also using a custom class (.customDiv) to apply some custom styles to each of the div elements. [div class="container"] [div class="row"] [div class="col-md-2"] [div class="customDiv"]LEFT SIDE BAR[/div] [/div] [div class="col-md-8"] [div class="customDiv"]MAIN CONTENT AREA[/div] [/div] [div class="col-md-2"] [div class="customDiv"]RIGHT SIDE BAR[/div] [/div] [/div] [/div] Here is the definition of the custom css class (.customDiv) .customDiv{ margin:3px; min-height:300px; background-color:silver; text-align:center; font-size:large } I have created this class in a stylesheet that I named CustomStyles.css. I have placed this in the root folder of the project. Some important points to keep in mind when working with the bootstrap grid system to create page layouts 1. Rows must be placed within a container for proper alignment and padding. 2. Use rows to create horizontal groups of columns. 3. Content should be placed within columns, and only columns may be immediate children of rows. 4. If more than 12 columns are placed within a single row, each group of extra columns will, as one unit, wrap onto a new line. 5. Grid columns are created by specifying the number of twelve available columns you wish to span. For example, to create four equal columns we would use four .col-xs-3.
