Ask a designer - Mario Botta on architectural style | Architecture design
The architecture of Swiss architect Mario Botta is scattered around the world. His signature works include San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art, the cathedral in Evry, France and the Samsung museum of art in Seoul. Red bricks are his trademark. At the age of 73, he'd added another structure to his repertoire. The Fiore di Pietra restaurant in Switzerland. It's perched some 1700 meters on Monte Generoso, like a flower overlooking the valley below. For more information on European design, architecture and lifestyle go to http://dw.com/lifestyle

Sketch like an Architect (Techniques + Tips from a Real Project)
Follow along as I work through a few rough sketches for a new project; I discuss the key style points and techniques you can use to develop your own architectural sketching style. Each sketching vignette includes many tips, but broadly they fall under the following headings: 1) Simply your toolset: fewer tools = fewer decisions 2) Start small: move quickly, be less precise, less precious 3) Line work: architectural sketching is a line art, not a fine art 4) Annotations: helps create a layered esthetic, describes things you're not able to easily show 5) Media + Implements: how changing these from time to time can spur new ideas. 6) Practice: the one thing guaranteed to improve your architectural sketching technique. **Here's the link to GET INVOLVED in my NEW PROJECT: http://thirtybyforty.com/new-project // GEAR I USE // CAD DRAWING TEMPLATE: * Download here: http://thirtybyforty.com/autocad-template ARCHITECT'S TOOLKIT: * Architect + Entrepreneur Startup Toolkit: http://thirtybyforty.com/SPL ARCHITECTURE ESSENTIAL TOOLS: * http://thirtybyforty.com/archi-gear PHOTOGRAPHY GEAR: *http://thirtybyforty.com/my-photo-gear MUSIC I USE: * http://thirtybyforty.com/music #architecture #architect #architecturetutorial -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Studio Joy Works (Rick Joy's New Book) - My Review" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZPhhiLaOhg -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Steel + Residential Architecture - An Architect's How-to Guide
Quintessentially modern, steel is a material born of industrial processes. It’s forged in fire and rolled or drawn into shapes — beams, tubes, wires, angles, plates. Steel is strong, durable, conductive, ductile, machinable and malleable. And while many think of the use of steel in a residential setting as a particularly cold form of modernism, steel can be wonderfully warm and inviting when contrasted with natural materials. In this video I review the essential qualities of steel and how they can be leverage for use in a residential setting. I discuss: 1. Strength - hot vs. cold-rolled 2. Weight - (steel is sold by the pound) 3. Durability (alloys) 4. Appearance 5. Lightness - thickness vs. strength 6. Finishes - brushed, matte, polished 7. Other treatments: blackening, galvanizing, cutting and folding 8. Landscape uses - Corten -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Studio Joy Works (Rick Joy's New Book) - My Review" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZPhhiLaOhg -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Bauhaus : A History Of Modern Architecture
Bauhaus : A History Of Modern Architecture Staatliches Bauhaus (About this sound listen (help·info)), commonly known simply as Bauhaus, was an art school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicised and taught. It operated from 1919 to 1933. At that time the German term About this sound Bauhaus (help·info)—literally "construction house"—was understood as meaning "School of Building". The Bauhaus was first founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar. In spite of its name and the fact that its founder was an architect, the Bauhaus, during the first years of existence, did not have an architecture department. Nonetheless, it was founded with the idea of creating a "total" work of art in which all arts, including architecture, would eventually be brought together. The Bauhaus style later became one of the most influential currents in modern design, Modernist architecture and art, design and architectural education. The Bauhaus had a profound influence upon subsequent developments in art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and typography. Anti-Architecture & Deconstructivism
Deconstructivism is a Postmodern architectural style characterised by the idea of fragmentation and the manipulation of a structure’s surface. Buildings adopting the style are often formed of components that have been disassembled and reassembled in a new and unorthodox way, giving the impression of a chaotic design devoid of precise logic.

Contemporary Home Design with Modern Tropical and Minimalist Time Less Architecture Style
This Contemporary Home Design is known as Malouna villa. It is an exclusive private residential project located on the North Coast of Koh Samui Island in Bang Po, Thailand. Lying on a quiet part of beautiful Laem Noi Beach along Koh Samui’s northern shore, Villa Malouna boasts 45m of pristine beach frontage, with views across to the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan. The 750 sqm GFA are organised around a central garden to provide a feeling of large and open space just after the main entrance. The 7 bedrooms up to 23 beds of Malouna villa are spread around this garden. The project develops a modern tropical and minimalist time less architecture. A combination of ideal location, cutting-edge design, luxurious finishes and a layout designed for easy living, results in a contemporary beach villa with flow and movement that makes the most of Samui’s climate, views and light. The composition is using the contrast of two main materials / colours: white blocks and dark teak timber. Due to its North orientation the ventilation and sun control of the main facades are well managed. The project develops a special attention to the tropical climate and eco-friendly design. The roofs have large overhangs with fixed louvers to protect the façade from the sun. Besides, the main areas provide important oversized opening to minimize the indoor / outdoor barrier, and to offer a natural ventilation with a cross opening. These rooms are designed for indoor-outdoor living, with stack-away doors which completely open up the rooms to the gorgeous island climate. With the living room being open on three sides, the gentle sea breeze cools the space, helped by ceiling fans. The white terrazzo floors throughout the villa are cool under foot. The interior design is also using the contrast. The walls have different white and grey shades painting, combined with a tropical solid timber for the furniture. ============================================ Please other related video about home and interior design : Contemporary House Design Surrounded By Beautiful Vegetation and Landscape in Bandung, Indonesia == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O-2EzKMaMg Future House with Beautiful Organic Shape and Wooden Construction == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPD331Zm66Y Luxury Modern House Design with Long Window and Sense of Levity == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGanMBCHSKE ============================================== The admin of this channel is not the owner of the material inside the video. Kedem Shinar bases boxy Israel home on Bauhaus architecture
Tel Aviv architect Kedem Shinar drew on Israel's Bauhaus architecture and her training in Japan, to create the clean lines of this bright white house in Carmey Yossef. The 350-square-metre residence is set on a plot surrounded by pine, cypress and olive trees in Carmey Yossef, a settlement between Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. For the design, Shinar took her cues from the International Style developed at the Bauhaus, the renowned German art school that ran between 1919 and 1933. Over 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings were constructed in Tel-Aviv between 1920-1940, according to the city's Bauhaus Centre. Gridded glazing, suspended porches and concrete, give CY House a semi-industrial aesthetic and reference the Bauhaus building itself. "The design idea, which draws inspiration from Japanese architecture, the De Stijl style and local Bauhaus architecture, was to merge the light and the landscape with the space of the house by using an interplay of walls and openings," explained Kedem Shinar, "some transparent and some opaque, a play of open and closed, and exposed and protected." Inside, a black grand piano takes centre-stage in the Eames-inspired interior, which features a double-height living space. Two bedrooms and bathrooms are located off this central living space. Modern House Design with Large Spans and Slender Beams Architectural Style
Modern House Design - The design of this functional residence, which emphasized visual connection between living areas, features grand clean modern lines. The integration of most rooms with the living/entertaining areas, enabled the use of ample glazed doors and window openings over large spans; all framed by spectacular surrounding scenery. The search for materials that promoted contrasting balance and yet, defined each element in its totality, has driven the architectural finishes palette. This design fostered large spans and slender beams, which created a structural challenge, given the unrefined capability at the work site. Lengthy meetings with the structural engineer eventually provided the most cost effective solution. Despite accommodating all mechanical services in dedicated plant rooms, the building facades remained uncompromised, giving prominence to high ceilings and cross ventilation into living areas via automated high-level windows. Modern House Design - The use of skylights permitted efficient natural lighting and ventilation to the ensuites, walk-in robes and bedrooms circulation areas. CLEAN LINES, OPEN SPACES: A VIEW OF MID-CENTURY MODERN ARCHITECTURE international-style architecture; A Utopian Ideal Modern architecture or modernist architecture is a term applied to an overarching movement, with its exact definition and scope varying widely.[1] The term is often applied to modernist movements at the turn of the 20th century, with efforts to reconcile the principles underlying architectural design with rapid technological advancement and the modernization of society. It would take the form of numerous movements, schools of design, and architectural styles, some in tension with one another, and often equally defying such classification.[1] The term Modern architecture may be used to differentiate from Classical architecture following Vitruvian ideals, while it is also applied to various contemporary architecture styles such as Postmodern, High-tech or even New Classical, depending on the context. In art history, the revolutionary and neoclassical styles that evolved around 1800 are also called modern. The concept of modernism is a central theme in the efforts of 20th century modern architecture. Gaining global popularity especially after the Second World War, architectural modernism was adopted by many architects and architectural educators, and continued as a dominant architectural style for institutional and corporate buildings into the 21st century. Modernism eventually generated reactions, most notably Postmodernism which sought to preserve pre-modern elements, while "Neo-modernism" has emerged as a reaction to Post-modernism. Notable architects important to the history and development of the modernist movement include Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Erich Mendelsohn, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, Gerrit Rietveld, Bruno Taut, Arne Jacobsen, Oscar Niemeyer and Alvar Aalto. Common themes of modern architecture include: the notion that "Form follows function", a dictum originally expressed by Frank Lloyd Wright's early mentor Louis Sullivan, meaning that the result of design should derive directly from its purpose simplicity and clarity of forms and elimination of "unnecessary detail" materials at 90 degrees to each other visual expression of structure (as opposed to the hiding of structural elements) the related concept of "Truth to materials", meaning that the true nature or natural appearance of a material ought to be seen rather than concealed or altered to represent something else use of industrially-produced materials; adoption of the machine aesthetic particularly in International Style modernism, a visual emphasis on horizontal and vertical lines

Modern House Design with Beautiful Architectural Style of Secondary Skin
This modern house is known as Properly Breathing House. It is a residential project designed by H&P Architects in 2015. It is located in Dong Anh Town, Dong Anh District, Hanoi, Vietnam. A “suffocating” situation Just 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) far from the center of Hanoi, the suburban district Dong Anh has witnessed pervasive urbanization – one of the major causes for a trend towards a maximum use of volume and quantity of construction areas. Lesser importance has been attached to the quality of used space and surrounding scenery. This has resulted in a large number of “suffocating” buildings as often found in newly planned, stuffy urban areas characterized with land plot subdivision for building row houses in Vietnam. A “properly breathing” solution Featured in both living and working space, a “properly breathing” house serves as a solution to the quality improvement of used space by creating a natural sense of breathing rhythm in monsoon tropical conditions, which is attributed to the two built-in functions: The Inside and outside. The inside offers many voids while the outside has double-skin facade including the inner layer as all-glass panels; the between as corridor for movement; the outer layer as recycled ceramic bricks (40cmx40cm[16inx16in]). Pot plants are also randomly arranged to absorb the humidity and mitigate calorific radiation. Together with the inner duplex, the layer of ceramic bricks is to purify dust and smoke, suck in fresh air and take heat away through open panels alternated with pot plants on the facade. This filter helps revitalize the architectural space by balancing the breathing of human and nature, and promoting the connection and interaction between the inner and outer scenery, roofs with creepers above and pot plants and vegetables below, sunlight and shade. ============================================ Please other related video about home and interior design : Modern House with Beautiful Secondary Skin Designed To be Passively Environmentally Responsive == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-wTPkwR6vI Sustainable Home Design Created from Adoption Style of Combination Architecture and Agriculture == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxWPyYSoxcU Rustic House Design with Combination of Elegant Simplicity of Modern Design Principles & Rustic Feel == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7CtfRsqkRA ============================================== The admin of this channel is not the owner of the material inside the video. Introduction to House Architectural Styles
Learn what Scale, Proportion and Pattern mean and how to use this knowledge to identify home styles! VIEW our portfolio: https://goo.gl/WvA1WD LEARN more on our blog: https://goo.gl/wWTtfy Now offering energy-efficient plan sets: https://goo.gl/ZQsWk3 What style is my house? That’s a common question asked by homeowners wishing to better understand the style of the home they live in. It’s a simple enough question, but as with most simple things it becomes more complex the more you learn. This video introduces some key terms we use when discussing architectural design: Scale, proportion and pattern. Scale. How the size of a building or building elements relate to a person. This could also mean how the size of a building relates to a neighborhood or a surrounding area. Proportion. Proportion is used to describe how the size of the elements within a design relate to each other. Large objects may be out of scale when compared to a person, but still work within the context of a design because they’re in proportion to one another. Think about the columns at the parthenon. Pattern. Pattern describes the arrangement of the building’s features, as viewed from the street. How the rhythm of elements such as windows, columns, material changes and accent features such as brackets are used. People are pattern seekers and symmetry is a pleasing and easily distinguishable base to a pattern. Victorian Style Architecture Interior Design : Victorian Remodel in San Francisco
Victorian Style Architecture Interior Design : Victorian Remodel in San Francisco The Pierce Street project is a 1906 Victorian Pacific Heights remodel by San Francisco-based Feldman Architecture. The owners of this Victorian home wanted to maintain its traditional feel while injecting a modern feel and making it as eco-friendly as possible. The result is a beautiful space with open kitchen, roof top garden and plenty of natural light throughout. Pierce Street Renovation by Feldman Architecture: “The Pierce Street Renovation involved updating and reconfiguring a 1906 stucco-clad Victorian. The owners wanted to maintain the building’s traditional feel, but also to infuse some modern elements, so the house would be both more livable and reflective of their personalities. They also hoped for a light-filled house that would incorporate sustainable elements. Furthermore, the original house took up nearly the entire length of its lot and the clients wanted a garden that would be accessible from the main living spaces. To achieve these goals, Feldman Architecture placed the living areas on the top floor, where the light would be best and where, by removing a large portion of the rear space, a roof garden was created. Most of the walls were removed from this floor to create spaces that are visually connected but functionally separate. The building is set off the south property line, which allowed the addition of numerous large windows along the length of the house. New skylights on the north side flood the interior of the top floor and the long hallway on the second floor with natural light. Open-riser stairs, a light well, and interior windows also allow light to filter down to the second floor hall.” Photos by: Paul Dyer http://www.dyerphoto.com/ Subscribe to our channel : http://www.youtube.com/homeinteriorplus

Georgian Style Architecture
This month we are going to explore all the various house styles throughout the United States. Each day we will go over the key features and elements that make that style unique. How the style might transition from one to another, since a house design is rarely pure to one particular style. This is the outline for this series (subject to change): Dutch Colonial French Colonial Spanish Colonial Today - (Georgian) Adam Early Classical Revival Greek Revival Gothic Revival Italianate Exotic Revivals Octagon Second Empire Stick Queen Anne Shingle Richardsonian Romanesque Folk Victorian Colonial Revival Neoclassical Tudor Chateauesque Beaux Arts French Eclectic Italian Renaissance Misson Spanish Eclectic Monterey Pueblo Revival Prairie Craftsman Modernistic International Modernistic Neoeclectic Contemporary Folk If you know of a particular style that I have left off and you want me to explore it, please let me know. Modern House Design with Natural Architecture Style and Beautiful Landscape
This modern house is known as Natural Architecture Project. It is a project completed by Tim Davies Landscaping. It is located in City Beach, a suburb of Perth, Australia A mature yet architectural backyard was required to soften the ultra-mod lines of this brand new City Beach abode; one that the team from Tim Davies Landscaping (TDL) mastered by sourcing mature plantings, manipulating walkways and highlighting sculptural elements. “The client wanted a mature garden which provided instant impact and softened the minimal, modern architecture of the house and the large outdoor spaces that it created,” TDL landscape designer Tim Davies said. Natural plantings were just as important as the hardscaping in creating form and function for the architectural design. “The sourcing of mature tree and plant species was a major factor in creating the feel of an established garden overnight and clear and constant communication with the client regarding plant species ensured the right selection for each space was made,” Mr Davies said. “The mature olives out the front tying the front elevation into its coastal setting, the established star jasmine creeper alongside the pool and the spectacular mature transplant Poinciana tree in the house’s central courtyard are just a few of the planting elements that ensure the brief was met.” Chindarsi Architects designed the home and chose Bateig Azul Spanish Sandstone from Forezzi Pty Ltd for the exterior flooring. The stone has been manipulated in platform steps leading up to the front entrance, flanked by abstract rendered garden beds for dimension. On the left of the home, a private walkway leads toward the central feature courtyard. It has tiered garden beds and stone slabs enhanced with garden lighting, notably feature light spheres designed and installed by TDL. These are repeated around the entire design for a unique take on illumination. Custom graphite granite bowls and planters are also spotted throughout including one filled with succulents under a sprawling Frangipani and another in the courtyard filled with water and riverstones. The pool was also designed by the architect, bordered by swathes of sandstone and a grassed area, which is topped with a contemporary sculpture designed and built by artist Tim McFarlane Reid. Mr Davies described the landscape as minimal and contemporary; combining high quality finishes with lush, mature planting. ============================================ Please other related video about home and interior design : Rustic House Design with Combination of Elegant Simplicity of Modern Design Principles & Rustic Feel == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7CtfRsqkRA Modern House Design with Beautiful Architectural Style of Secondary Skin == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2AAIEH_1FA Modern House Design with Stone, Glass and Wood as Dominated Architectural Design Elements == https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nxpVMlgr_4 ============================================== The admin of this channel is not the owner of the material inside the video. Architecture Spotlight #52 | Transitional Color by Pasquale Design | Tampa, Florida
The interior design of this luxury home in Tampa blends timeless style and family friendly design. Every family member was thought of when Franco began the design of this home, from the large open kitchen to the game room off the sitting room. The color palette of this home is a mix of whites, grays, accented with vibrant pops of color. The homeowners lean towards a more transitional design style, and Franco achieved that by selecting furniture, accessories, and lighting that had clean lines and and paired them with simple yet luxurious fabrics and finishes. Produced in 1958 by Jam Handy Organization (and sponsored by the Chevrolet division of General Motors), “In Appreciation Of Stylist Of America” is a Technicolor American Look film that documents automotive, industrial, interior, and architectural design from the last truly great era of American design. An opening crawl explains that purpose, to pay tribute to men and women who work in the design industry — those “who work in lines, forms and textures, and colors to give to us beauty, charm, and elegance in the conveniences, comforts, and necessities of our daily living.” A "tribute to the American stylist," American Look shows families at leisure, children dressed in cowboy and cowgirl outfits watching television, a father shooting home movies of his picnicking family, modern 1950s home interiors graced by formally dressed models, furniture (including designs by Herman Miller), kitchens and kitchen equipment, packaging (including designs by Donald Deskey), appliances, textiles, offices and office furniture, office machines, industrial machines, lawn mowers and sprinklers, domestic and institutional architecture, people at leisure and enjoying recreation, children playing baseball, a mother and child in a transparent rowboat being observed by the snorkeling father, automobile styling and design and the work of the design staff of the new General Motors Technical Center at Warren, Michigan. The story behind the design of the 1959 Chevrolet Impala is shown, with dramatized moments in the design and modeling process. The film lumps industrial, interior and product design efforts together as "styling," and characterizes them as responses by industry to insistent consumer demands for the most modern products and environment. During the last third of this twenty-eight-minute film, it becomes clear that it was produced to celebrate modern design as exemplified in the "look" of the 1959 Chevrolets, the year that tail fins stretched to their greatest extent. We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting? Tuscan Architecture Design Elements Style Home Design House Floor Plans Photos
Tuscan architecture incorporates modern-day and also classic weathers that comprise pure Vintage Europe. The beauty of architecture Tuscan style originates from the typical custom crafted all-natural rock. This consists of sedimentary rock, travertine and marble. Terra-cotta floor and also roofing system ceramic tiles are often made use of to give the antique feeling. In Tuscan architecture, wood beams are often reconditioned from Tuscan farmhouses. It has actually taken centuries of human labor to produce the Tuscany of preferred imagination, that organized, well-tended landscape of wineries, olive groves as well as ancient hilltop towns. But there are still pockets of this legendary Italian region that male has actually not completely subjugated, as well as the wild hills outside the walled community of Anghiari, at the eastern edge of Tuscany, are amongst them. Deeply forested, they are the home of foxes, deer, porcupines, boars and a scattering of solitary stone farmhouses, including one left framework that caught the eye of a Dallas couple. Wanting to make a second house, they commence transforming it right into a 6,000-square-foot vacation home, an odyssey that would take 12 years of preparation, repair as well as structure.
