Odysseus was a legendary hero in Greek mythology, king of the island of Ithaca and the main protagonist of Homer's epic, the Odyssey. He was also a prominent character in the other surviving Homeric epic, the Iliad. He was the son of Laertes and Anticlea, and is well known as an eloquent speaker, ingenious and cunning.

This video was to be more of a showcase of the mini figures I planned to use in future brickfilms than a factual description of the Greek Gods. All of the information is not 100% correct or accurate, and subject to dispute so don't take the video too literally. (2004) Greek mythology for students: The gods of Olympus Episode: 3 The myths of ancient Greece were passed down by word of mouth, over thousands of years, often changing over time. These legendary tales revolved around a family of immortal gods who, while incredibly powerful, had some very human characteristics - complete with petty resentments, wounded egos, and frequent quarrels that erupted into larger-than-life dramas. In The Gods of Olympus, students will observe the creation of the universe from chaos, learn how Zeus became the king of the gods and examine life on Mt. Olympus, the home to Zeus and his family of Olympian gods. This title provides an overview of the major characters in Greek mythology and sheds light on their relationships with each other and with humans. The series includes these 10 volumes: 1. Constellation myths 2. Defying the gods 3. The gods of Olympus 4. Jason & the golden fleece 5. The journeys of Odysseus 6. The labors of Heracles 7. Nature myths 8. Perseus & Medusa 9. Theseus & the Minotaur 10. The Trojan war

Apollo and Cassandra | Athena and Poseidon - Ancient Greek Myths - Cartoons APOLLO AND CASSANDRA Cassandra was given the gift of prophecy, but was also cursed by the god Apollo so that her accurate prophecies would not be believed. Many versions of the myth relate that she incurred the god's wrath by refusing him sex, after promising herself to him in exchange for the power of prophecy. ATHENA AND POSEIDON Athena and Poseidon vied for control of Athens and its surrounding territory, Attica. The contest took place on the Acropolis. Poseidon struck the rock with his trident and produced a salt spring or a horse. Athena brought forth an olive tree from the ground by the touch of her spear and she was proclaimed the victor. (2004) Greek mythology for students: Constellation myths Episode: 1 One can look at the night sky as a picture book containing the images of some of the best known monsters, heroes, and characters of ancient mythology. Constellation Myths recounts a few of the tales that the ancient Greeks and Romans composed around star formations as they searched for clues about life here on Earth. While we no longer believe that the stars necessarily influence our lives, the stories of the constellations and other planetary objects stay with us today! This program presents the exciting tale of the great hunter Orion, and explains his placement in the heavens along with his faithful hunting dogs and the animals he hunted - and who hunted him! In addition, students learn of the origins of the bear constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor and of the vanity that put a queen named Cassiopeia high into the heavens.

Weirdly enough, as far as I've been able to research, neither Invidia nor Nemesis were originally supposed to be at all evil, but only, like, super crazy about justice and retribution. Now their names are literally synonymous with envy and enemies. Later edit (2018-07-26): I can't beLIEVE I forgot to mention this. There's a gorgeous song based on this myth. Zeus was not afraid of anything except possibly his wife, the horrible Hera. Magically, Zeus was the only god who could throw lightning bolts. He could shape shift, and look like anybody. He could throw his voice and sound like anybody. As king, he had powers that came from being king of all the gods. These were powers of government. He could give other gods titles and jobs. He could take those titles and jobs away. He could direct other gods, like any leader. His was an elected position. There were 12 gods on the council. They could have voted someone else king. But they never did. And Zeus never retired. There are many myths, of course, about the king of all the Greek gods.
