Social Progress Imperative - "Gross Domestic Product (GDP)" - 321 FastDraw

02:45
We created this FastDraw video for Social Progress Imperative to help explore why countries are measured as "successful" according to GDP throughout history, and promote a new call to action. ------------- What does a successful country look like? For 80 years, economic growth, measured in Gross Domestic Product or GDP, has been the usual measure of success. But isn't there more to life than money? How did GDP take over our lives? And where do we go from here? To answer this, we need to go back to 1932... America wants to know if its economy is recovering from the Great Depression. The government asks economist Simon Kuznets to develop a new measure. Kuznets introduces GDP to the world in January 1934. A decade later. World War 2 ends: nations look to economic growth for employment and basic goods and services to maintain a fragile peace and lead the way out of poverty. GDP comes into its own: the signpost on the path to a better world. Yet even Simon Kuznets himself issued a clear early warning: "The welfare of a nation can scarcely be inferred from a measurement of national income as defined by the GDP." Bobby Kennedy, speaking in 1968, warned the world against reading too much into GDP: "It does not allow for the health of our families, the quality of their education...it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile." Economic growth, measured by GDP, has help lift millions out of poverty. But a focus on GDP alone masks real problems: GDP says nothing about sustainability or inequality. And GDP counts the money we spend on food or policing crime, and on manufacturing equipment or clearing up after natural disasters, all as "improvement" in our lives. It's time for a radically different, more direct approach to measuring social progress, one that measures what really matters in our lives. So major corporations and foundations have teamed with leading scholars to create The Social Progress Index. Not to replace GDP, but to complement it. To bring business, civil society, and government together around one set of data directly measuring social progress on the things that matter, like clean water, electricity, education, and opportunity for all. Now isn't that a better way of looking at the world than through a single economic lens? We are at the start of an exciting journey, and we want you to join us. What is GDP ? - Basic Concept (Urdu)

05:45
GDP is a very handy method of identifying a country's growth and economic condition. This term is widely used on TV, Social media, radio, NEWS papers and especially used by our politicians. However, a huge number of people still do not understand GDP. In this video I have tried to explain this concept in a basic and simplified manner. 11 Foods Whose Quality You Can Easily Check

09:04
There are many ways to check the quality of the food products we eat every day. However, most of them require the assistance of professionals or special equipment. We at Bright Side suggest only those you can do all by yourself at home or even right in the supermarket. For example, to figure out whether your cottage cheese has some starch in its content is add a drop of iodine to this product. If there's starch in it, the stain will turn deep blue. If the color remains brown or dark yellow, the cottage cheese doesn't contain any additives. In addition, cottage cheese that contains vegetable fats will become yellow if left at room temperature. As for fresh, natural cottage cheese, it might taste a bit sour after this test, but its color will remain the same. Cottage cheese that is about to go bad will have pockets of liquid, which indicates that the process of separation has started. If you wanna know what other checks there are, watch the video! TIMESTAMPS: Cottage cheese 0:40 Chicken 1:26 Sour cream 2:28 Honey 3:16 Frozen veggies, berries, and fruits 4:14 Fish 4:40 Meat 5:35 Cheese 6:14 Herbs 6:57 Eggs 7:36 Ice cream 8:17 #freshproducts #freshmeat #foodquality Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Fresh chicken meat is pink. Avoid buying poultry that looks gray, yellowish, or translucent. Even if the meat looks pink enough, inspect the crevices under the thighs and wings. The meat itself should be neither too stiff nor too soft, and the skin should spring back after you touch it. - A moldy, stinky, or rancid sour cream will clearly tell you that the product has gone bad. You should also pay attention to the color of sour cream. If it's yellow or discolored, it may have fungi or bacteria growth inside. - If the product has a caramel flavor, this may indicate that the honey has been previously heated. And if honey is excessively sweet, this means that white sugar has been added to the product. - If a package of frozen veggies, berries, or fruits has pieces of ice or snow inside (or if you can feel big, solid blocks of food), the product hasn't been stored properly. The chances are high that the food has been thawed and then refrozen. Freshly frozen packaged foods should have only a thin layer of frost covering them. - When you choose fish, first check its smell. High-quality fresh fish will have a clean and briny sea smell. A suspicious “fishy” odor means that the fish isn't good. - When you choose meat, poke it with your finger. If the meat is fresh, your fingerprint will disappear. According to professional chefs, properly stored cold meat should be hard. - You can also leave a piece of cheese at room temperature. If this cheese is of high quality, it will become softer. If it gets drier or liquid appears on its surface, the quality leaves much to be desired. - If you need to check the freshness of herbs, hold a bunch of them in your hand. If the leaves are hanging over the sides, these herbs have already wilted. Moreover, if the stems are too long and the color is too dark, this product is likely to contain nitrates. Fresh herbs are known for their natural green color. - If you don't want to crack the egg but need to figure out if it's still OK to use, put it in a cup filled with water. A fresh egg will drop to the bottom of the cup and lie on its side. If the egg drops to the bottom but stands upright, you can eat it — but do this as soon as possible. - If the quality of ice cream is high and its ingredients are natural, it will melt into a thick creamy substance with a white color. A: Attention SCIENCE: there is a great famous video called the "Invisible Gorilla." Can't play it due to copyright reasons. Basically, students pass a basketball back in forth you count 9 seconds in gorilla walks through. At end of video, 50% people don’t notice the BIG gorilla. They are in such a trance state focusing on the basketball passes, they miss the most interesting part. If you want to SELL something. Snap people out of their everyday patterns-- PATTERN INTERRUPT EXAMPLE: Why you see nearly every ad on YT saying “HEY HET STOP EXAMPLE: Why every commercial try to be ridiculous (jack in the box, burger king, etc) MY EX: “STOP what you’re doing right now” If you want to SELL something - they have to LISTEN to you. If you want them to LISTEN, you have to SNAP them out of trance state. 2. I: Interest What I JUST did there - is NUMBER TWO —- INTEREST Get attention for the wrong reason? MY EXAMPLE: “last video got 1.2 M views - this one’s better” 3. D: Desire Why would I ever buy something I didn’t desire? How to get someone desire product — CRAM down logical reasons they need it! (Specs, amount of data, better than other products, etc) We BUY with EMOTIONS, not Logic Connect to emotions to get the sale Use these 3 things and tell stories. 1. “picture this” 2. “I want you to imagine” 3. “What would it feel like to….” Goal is to get them FEELING same emotion EXAMPLE: In writing a lot of people skip this. Say I was writing about being depressed. BAD: “And then I struggled with depression. It sucked” BETTER: “It felt like rain clouds everywhere I went. I wondered if it would end” GOOD: “I opened the email, and immediately felt my stomach knot up. skipping over the body of the email and racing down to the bottom of it where it read “I’m sorry this had to end this way” — that was the day I lost my job. That was the last thing I had to lose. That was the day, rock bottom started.” SHOW THEM, DON’T TELL THEM Take them with you on the journey 4. A: Action Call to action — URGENT call to action 5 things that get better CTAs 1. Scarcity (EX: Limited time only. Limited space. Bonuses. Etc) 2. Social Proof (EX: 1.2 Million views on the first video) 3. Likability (People will buy more if they like you.) 4. Objection Handling (know objections before they say them) 5. Limited CTA — ex: email marketing ex: apple comps ex: jam study No more than 2 CTAs okay for online — ONE CTA for physical selling. Macroeconomics: Crash Course Economics #5

This week, Adriene and Jacob teach you about macroeconomics. This is the stuff of big picture economics, and the major movers in the economy. Like taxes and monetary policy and inflation and policy. We need this stuff, because if you don't have a big picture of the economy, crashes and panics are more likely. Of course, economics is extremely complex and unpredictable. Today we'll talk about GDP as a measure of a country's economic health, the basics of economic analysis, and even a little about full employment, unemployment Crash Course is on Patreon! Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

02:14
VOICE NARRATOR: If the GDP falls two quarters in a row, bust-bust, it is called a recession. Let's draw a graph. We will show U.S. GDP up the trillions, and from 1930 through the years. The curve of potential GDP reflects the smooth growth of physical capital and labor, projected out to the year 2020. But the real GDP is a lot more ragged. Where it goes downward are the recessions. The biggest dips below potential are the Great Depression, the Volker-Reagan Recession, and the current one, which is already called the Great Recession. Let's look at these two, and compare the human impacts. Now what did we do? We took twelve and a half years for each, and we equalized the potentials for size and growth, more or less. We see that the 1930's Depression was devastating. But around fourteen trillion dollars is a bigger economy, so the output gap below potential was nearly a trillion dollars, and it has barely closed. This is lost work, and it is causing misery and despair for millions of unemployed. Right now GDP must grow at around two percent a year just to keep the gap from getting larger. We need a higher growth rate, over three-and-a-half percent, to get us back to full employment by the year 2017. Well, what can we do about this? We know that recessions can be cured by two kinds of policy, monetary policy and fiscal policy.

Nominal versus Real GDP

Measuring GDP using the Income Approach and the Expenditure Approach - HD

14:02
GDP is generally understood to represent the health of a nation's economy, and most people realize that if GDP is growing, things are going well, while if it's falling things have turned sour in the economy. But what, precisely, does GDP measures? There are two primary methods for measuring GDP, which should yield the same result even though they measure completely different factors. -The income approach: measures the total incomes earned by households in a nation in a year. -The expenditure approach: measures the total amount spent on the goods produced by a country in a year. By examining the circular flow model of a nation's economy, we can demonstrate why every dollar earned by a household in a nation's resource market will ultimately be spent in the product market, or leaked through taxes, savings, and import spending, leading to injections in the form of government spending, investment and export sales. In the video lecture below, the two methods for measuring GDP are introduced, and the various components it includes are explained in detail. Michael Green: What the Social Progress Index can reveal about your country

15:01
The term Gross Domestic Product is often talked about as if it were “handed down from god on tablets of stone.” But this concept was invented by an economist in the 1920s. We need a more effective measurement tool to match 21st century needs, says Michael Green: the Social Progress Index. With charm and wit, he shows how this tool measures societies across the three dimensions that actually matter. And reveals the dramatic reordering of nations that occurs when you use it. Women and men all over the world have used lipstick for centuries. And why shouldn’t they? It makes lips really stand out and totally brings a look together. Sadly, there is one thing your favorite lipstick brand isn’t telling you, and it’s the fact that it may have a substance called tallow in it. Make sure to watch the video, and we will show you exactly how tallow is made. And, believe us; it isn’t pretty. If that isn’t enough to make you rethink the beauty industry, may be there is something else that will do the trick. Gross domestic product (GDP) is the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country's borders in a specific time period. GDP is a broad measurement of a nation’s overall economic activity. Though GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis, it can be calculated on a quarterly basis as well. GDP includes all private and public consumption, government outlays, investments, private inventories, paid-in construction costs and the foreign balance of trade (exports are added, imports are subtracted). GDP is commonly used as an indicator of the economic health of a country, as well as a gauge of a country's standard of living. GDP can be used to compare the productivity of various countries with a high degree of accuracy. A nation’s GDP from any period can be measured as a percentage relative to previous periods. An important statistic that indicates whether an economy is expanding or contracting, GDP can be tracked over long spans of time and used in measuring a nation’s economic growth or decline, as well as in determining if an economy is in recession (generally defined as two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth). Providing a quantitative figure for GDP helps a government make decisions such as whether to stimulate a stagnant economy by pumping money into it or, conversely, to slow down an economy that's getting over-heated. Businesses can also use GDP as a guide to decide how best to expand or contract their production and other business activities. And investors also watch GDP since it provides a framework for investment decision-making. The "corporate profits" and "inventory" data in the GDP report are a great resource for equity investors, as both categories show total growth during the period; corporate profits data also displays pre-tax profits, operating cash flows and breakdowns for all major sectors of the economy. The Central Statistics Office (CSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, is responsible for macroeconomic data gathering and statistical record keeping.  The CSO collects and compiles the data required to calculate the GDP and other statistics. The GDP in India is calculated using two different methods, The first method is based on economic activity (at factor cost), and the second is based on expenditure (at market prices). Further calculations are made to arrive at nominal GDP (using current market price) and real GDP (inflation-adjusted). The factor cost figure is calculated by collecting data for the net change in value for each sector during a particular time period. The following eight industry sectors are considered in this cost: Agriculture, forestry, and fishing; Mining and quarrying; Manufacturing; Electricity, gas and water supply; Construction; Trade, hotels, transport and communication; Financing, insurance, real estate and business services; Community, social and personal services. Index of Industrial Production The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is an index for India which details out the growth of various sectors in an economy such as mineral mining, electricity and manufacturing. The all India IIP is a composite indicator that measures the short-term changes in the volume of production of a basket of industrial products during a given period with respect to that in a chosen base period. It is compiled and published monthly by the central statistical organization (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation six weeks after the reference month ends.
