Okay, so I’m gonna be upfront with you. I really don’t read a lot of marketing books. Sure, I devoured all the classics. Still, for the life of me I couldn’t name the latest and greatest marketing and advertising book topping the best-seller list. But you’re a marketing Wizard, you say. How can this be? Oh, no! I’ve been exposed as a fraud. I dunno. Maybe it’s the non-conformist in me. More likely than not, it’s because I want to know the root of an idea’s origins. I want to know WHY something works. So I’ve developed my persuasive prowess by studying neurology, psychology, biology, and the arts. That’s probably how I stumbled upon a little-known research book titled, Diffusion of Innovations by Everette M. Rogers. It’s a book every Marketing Wizard should read. And it definitely ranks as a classic. Diffusion of Innovations: http://www.amazon.com/Diffusion-Innovations-5th-Everett-Rogers/dp/0743222091/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1408307729&sr=1-1&keywords=diffusion+of+innovations Now, don’t get your undies in a bunch about the “innovations” part of the title. Yes, when Roger’s speaks of innovations, he’s referring to new products or services being introduced to the marketplace. But, the concepts found in his book provides any Marketing Wizard with a rock-solid blueprint for persuading customers to buy from you—even if what you’re selling has been around longer than Jerry Lewis. Is he still alive? Just look at all the dog-eared pages and highlights I made. Lots of good marketing mojo in this book for sure. Like this: “In developing a favorable or unfavorable attitude toward an innovation, an individual may mentally apply the new idea to his or her present or anticipated future situation before deciding whether or not to try it,” says Rogers. “This vicarious trial involves the ability to think hypothetically and counterfactually and to project into the future: What if I adopt this innovation? Forward planning is involved at the persuasion stage.” Helping your customers to imagine doing the thing that you want them to do. That’s what Rogers is talking about here. And that’s what you’re trying to make happen with your marketing as well. So let’s get knee deep into the five factors that influence the spread of new ideas and lead to widespread adoption: Number One: Relative Advantage - the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be better than the product or service it supersedes. Naturally, the greater the perceived relative advantage of an innovation, the more rapid its rate of adoption will be. Your goal here is to frame the buying conversation to favor you. Since we know that customers naturally contrast and compare the differences among their available options, you must make an apples-to-oranges comparison—rising above the competition to become the obvious choice. Now, logical, reason why marketing is important … but don’t forget to speak to your customer’s emotions. Tap into an emotional benefit that drives your customer’s desire—one that your customer is willing to pay for. Marketing and advertising that speaks to a dominant, driving emotion is much more powerful and persuasive than copy that makes a logical argument alone. Number Two: Compatibility - the degree to which an innovation is perceived to be consistent with existing values, past experiences and the needs of potential adopters. Products and services that are deemed less compatible or incompatible with the norms of a social system will not be adopted as rapidly as those that are. Please don’t expect your customers to adopt a new belief system. You can’t please all. Remember, only weasel brands try’n snuggle up to every customer in the marketplace. So find a group of customers with a social system that your products and services are compatible with. Number Three: Complexity - the degree to which which an innovation is perceived to be difficult to understand and use. Simplicity is a better way to think about this. Marketers have known for awhile now that uncertainty is the costly side-effect of overwhelming your customers with too much choice. Generally speaking, the more options customers have at their fingertips, the more indecisive they’ll become. And complexity often creates the desire for simplicity. Tip Top Trading finally launch the plastic aubergine. But will the presentation of their new product go according to plan? For more English at Work and other great content:: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/features/english-at-work TRANSCRIPT Narrator Welcome back to English at Work. It's an exciting day for Tip Top Trading. It's launching its latest product – the plastic aubergine. The launch is taking place at a swanky hotel; lots of clients have turned up - but there's one important person missing. Denise Has anyone seen Anna? Paul I haven't seen her all morning. Tom, you were with her last. Tom That was last night at the pub. She was drowning her sorrows. Denise Drowning her sorrows? Tom Yeah. She saw Dave from IT with another woman – Julie from accounts, actually. She was very upset. Denise Oh poor Anna. Paul So you left her drowning in the pub? And who's got the prototype aubergine to show at the launch? Tom Oh no! Anna has. It's in her bag. What are we going to do? Denise Panic! Paul No Denise. Calm down. I'll just have to make a start and I'm sure Anna will turn up. OK, here goes. Excuse me everyone, could you all gather round? Our presentation is about to begin. Tom I'll change the slides for you on the computer Paul. I'm good with technology. Paul Okey dokey. Ermm…ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming to our presentation. We have something very exciting to…ermm…show you and it's not a fruit…ha ha… Anna …and here it is – fresh from the factory – our plastic aubergine! Narrator Anna, you're just in time. Anna I know. I think I drank a bit too much last night and now I can't remember what to say. Narrator Well, you need to convince everyone that this is best product on the market and that it's something they really want. You could say "We believe this high quality product is something your business needs" – and, "Our new product has been designed to the highest specifications" – and tell people that "This product is the perfect decoration on any café or restaurant table" – tell them that, and the orders will come flying in! Anna What? They'll send them by aeroplane? Narrator No Anna! Just do your presentation and see what happens. Anna OK then. Yes everyone, this aubergine may look good enough to eat but it is made of the highest quality plastic and I'm convinced it's something your business needs. Paul Err yes, that's right. It may be plastic but it is… fantastic! Anna Thank you Paul. This product has been designed to the highest specifications. It's tough and durable. Client Yeah but why would I want to buy it? Tom 'Cos it's cheap mate! Anna No Tom. It's because it is the perfect decoration on any café or restaurant table. It shows you're serious about food. Paul And it doesn't go mouldy. Anna Yes. We're taking orders today and… and… Narrator And? And what, Anna? Anna I don't know what to say next. Narrator Offer them a discount and a guarantee. Anna Oh right. If you place an order for more than 1,000, we can offer you a generous discount. Plus, all our products come with a money-back guarantee. Client I like it! Narrator Well done Anna. She gave a clear presentation, and sounded enthusiastic about the product. Here's a reminder of some of the things she said: It is made of the highest quality plastic and I'm convinced it’s something your business needs. This product has been designed to the highest specifications. It's tough and durable. It is the perfect decoration on any café or restaurant table. We can offer you a generous discount. Plus, all our products come with a money-back guarantee. Anna Thanks for listening. Tom has a few slides to show, which illustrate how the aubergine has been designed. Tom… Tom? Tom Oh no, it's frozen, the slides won't change. Dave It's OK, I can fix it, I am the IT guy after all. Tom Dave? What are you doing here? Cheating on Anna like that. Here Anna, give me that aubergine. Anna Tom, no! Tom There, that's for upsetting Anna. Dave Ha ha - missed me! Denise Ha! Well the aubergine's certainly tough and durable. Paul Tom, Anna, I think we'd better talk about this back in my office. Narrator Crikey! That was certainly a spectacular presentation. Let's hope Tom’s outburst doesn't stop the orders flying in – but not via the window! Find out next time on English at Work. Bye!

Here’s what to do before anything else. The purpose of a product launch is to drive traffic and sales to your online business, so that it can grow and thrive. Launching a new product is a great way to attract new customers, but it takes time to plan and execute. Many entrepreneurs feel the need to promote their products right away, and end up rushing the process. The result can be disastrous. In the words of David Ramsey, "People are in such a hurry to launch their product that they seldom look at marketing from a bird's eye view and they don't create a systematic plan." A successful product launch starts with a great strategy, and I'm here to walk you through it. Are you ready to learn the step-by-step process for launching your product? Here's what to do before anything else. This page contains affiliate links. If you purchase a product through one of them, I will receive a commission (at no additional cost to you). Visit https://skills.presentationexpressions.com/presentations for the Elite Presentation Skills Course. http://presentationexpressions.com I was asked a little while ago about how to give a presentation about a product. In particular, how to give a presentation about shampoo. Giving a presentation about a product is an important thing to know how to do because you are likely to use this skill when also talking about yourself or your ideas. The key thing to remember is that you have to focus on benefits to your target audience and not only on the features of the product. For example, if it’s shampoo that doesn’t make you cry, then that is a feature. The benefit is that if you’re a parent, it will be much more comfortable for your child if the shampoo doesn’t sting his or her eyes. (Of course, that no tears shampoo is actually pretty nasty so it’s best to avoid it, but anyway.) Check out the video to learn more about how to give a presentation about a product and be sure to head over to PresentationExpressions.com to sign up for the weekly newsletter. Thanks.

Manufacturing organizations all have different cultures and ways of working, but, ultimately they all have the same common aim in life; that is: once they’ve developed an initial idea, they want to be able to take that idea through the various stages of development, and to come through the end of that process on time, on budget, and having an end product built to the right specifications. The ultimate goal is to deliver the right product, at the right time, to a satisfied customer. In order for product development to be successful, there are vast arrays of activities which need to take place between idea and product delivery. Those activities need to be effective, efficient and coordinated across the whole organization. There’s usually a detailed New Product Introduction process which has to be followed throughout the development cycle. Underneath that, there are many sub-processes, tasks and team and individual activities to be carried out. And all of this requires access to large amounts of product-related information to enable those stakeholders to make well-informed decisions. However, the sheer complexity of all of this is notoriously difficult for traditional manufacturing organizations to cope with. Often there are numerous barriers and bottlenecks throughout the New Product Introduction process which cause delays. Processes are not always fully understood by everyone, and the progress of those processes is not always made visible. People are not always clear on what’s been done, or still needs to be done, and, critically, the information needed to move development forward effectively is often unclear, difficult to find, or unavailable altogether. Join MasterGraphics for this webinar where we will discuss ways of knocking down these barriers and automating process to get all stakeholders on the same page and get products out the door on time, on budget and that meet the customer requirements.

Have you ever been so excited to try different skin care products that you started testing out multiple products at the same time? In this video you'll learn why you shouldn't do that, but rather how you should introduce new products into your skin care routine. If you follow these tips, you will avoid overstimulating your skin. In this video I also share what overstimulation means, and I share my experiences with it (hint: it was not pleasant). This is not a sponsored video. WANT TO SEE MORE? Nationwide — Zandra Cunningham, the 18-year old founder of Zandra, an award-winning plant-based artisan skincare product range for teenage skin, has started a nationwide launch of her new brand of women’s face care products called ‘Zandra 18’. The launch event will take place at the teen CEO’s official graduation and community award’s night on Saturday, July 7 in Buffalo, New York. The launch into women’s face care marks an important step for the once all teen brand. Zandra 18 represents a fresh take on the brand’s ‘No icky stuff!’ natural plant-based philosophy by starting with a Make-up Remover complete with her signature fresh scent and quality blends. Perfect for all skin-types, the make-up remover will introduce new customers to an effective cosmetic staple that delivers deeply cleansed skin and natural nourishment. The full range, which will be made available in stores across the USA by Fall 2018, will include a Herbal Clay Clarifying Bar, Toner for skin repair and normalizing the skin after cleansing, a Scrub Mask for an exfoliating and smoothing facial detox, and a light moisturizing Finishing Oil that works perfectly under make-up. All products are made from organic and natural ingredients and never tested on animals. Combining her own 18th birthday celebration with the product launch, teen CEO Zandra Cunningham said, “I am so happy to launch our new face care line! we have created fantastic products for all young women who are challenged by new skincare demands as they also shift from teen to adulthood. Face care is so important and what makes Zandra so unique is our clean and effective formulas, amazing scents, and great quality. The new line marks the start of a brand review and partnership with the Sephora mentorship team so I’m really excited about this nationwide launch!” Started when she was just 9-years old, Zandra Cunningham handcrafted her own skincare as a result of her dad’s refusal to buy her beloved lip balm. With the assistance of her family, she started her business a few days shy of her 10th birthday. Today at 18 years of age, Cunningham operates her skincare and beauty line from Buffalo, NY where she manufactures 40 natural skincare products as an alternative to commercial products with icky unhealthy ingredients. Her popular teen skincare range will still be available at Walmart, Paper Mart and other retailers in 200 stores across the nation. About Zandra Zandra Azariah Cunningham is an 18-year old entrepreneur from Buffalo, NY. As CEO, she has built the award-winning Zandra company into a national beauty brand earning recognition as the Etsy Open Call Golden PO Winner, BE Teenpreneur of the year nominee (2016), Small Business Administration Youth Entrepreneur of the year (2017). Zandra has been featured in Inc., Black Enterprise, USA Today, Seventeen Magazine, and Girls Life Magazine. 3 Tips for Entering a New Market 1. Focus on consumer impact The end user of your product or service is the individual who will ultimately decide your fate and an introduction to a brand is like an introduction to another person: You only get one chance to make a lasting first impression. People form habits based on initial experiences, so be sure your relationship starts off on a positive note. Focus on delivering a high quality, consistent product. Related: 4 Partnership Secrets for Hypergrowth Businesses We’ve found that an intense focus on customer satisfaction and guest experience is the key to driving repeat business and loyalty. Customers recognize the value of this and it pays off in the long run. 2. Allow for customization Customers perceive customization as value -- and providing consumers with the opportunity for customization can bring growth to any genre when implemented successfully. In our case, we’ve built our business model entirely around this consumer craving for personalization. As a result, we’ve found that interest in our company is largely driven by the quality of customized product that we are able to consistently and quickly deliver to our customers. Businesses in every sector can benefit from taking a closer look at increasing their offerings to meet this new consumer demand for customization. Related: 5 Ways Your Startup Can Continue to Innovate in a Fast-Paced World 3. Streamline for predictability Consistency is crucial to a successful brand. Consumers are driven to seek out known brands because these brands provide an unvarying and uniform experience. To meet this high level of expectation, day-to-day preparation and operations must be streamlined so that filling customer demand is both fluid and seamless. Yet, with the customization tip from above, it can make predicting customer preferences nearly impossible. In our business, to ensure predictability, we built an infrastructure so simple, it's foolproof. We built a system in which each of our locations mirrors all others down to the smallest details. Food prep stations are identical at every site, vegetables are cut and measured to the exact same size and width and pizzas are cooked in specialized ovens. This framework creates predictability on both ends: The customer knows what they’re getting, and we know how to deliver on what they want. Consistency of operations is arguably one of the most important considerations for those entering any market. Implementing predictive and control measures allows quality and efficiency to co-exist.

65% of people choose the first agent they hear back from. Do you have a system in place to ensure every lead is contacted within minutes? Introducing Lead Assist from LionDesk. LionDesk® , the leading Real Estate CRM platform that helps sales professionals connect, communicate and close leads faster, is proud to announce "Lead Assist™," an automated lead conversion assistant. Nicknamed, "Gabby," Lead Assist will qualify incoming leads with the goal of booking appointments, while agents focus on current business activities. Closely mimicking true artificial intelligence, Gabby will engage with incoming leads and existing clients via text message to further determine lead quality and speed response to general customer needs with the ultimate goal of qualifying the lead for the agent. Built into its highly conversational discourse is the ability to recognize terms such as "divorce" or "just married" as they relate to reasons why homeowners often need to buy or sell. Gabby probes for specific reasons for contact, such as timelines for buying and selling, financial qualifications, price ranges, and locations. "Giving LionDesk users the ability to turn on Lead Assist to qualify incoming leads will increase their conversion, and more importantly give them more time to spend on important life moments and highest revenue producing activities," said David Anderson, Founder and CEO of LionDesk. LionDesk bases much of its product innovations on the power of "follow-up," that is, helping agents stay in touch with people during the decision-making process, whether that decision is who to work with or what to buy. Thus, Lead Assist maintains an outreach effort for 90 days, ensuring at least 15 touches after initial engagement. LionDesk worked closely to develop Lead Assist with Structurely, a provider of automated chat and follow-up technologies for the real estate industry. The product is now available to add by all existing LionDesk customers. "This is the next step in many new product innovations coming out in 2019 from LionDesk," Anderson said. Are you stuck when you have to introduce yourself? Do you avoid introducing people because you don't know how? Don't be afraid anymore! Watch this lesson and learn what to say and do! Develop your confidence to be more successful in personal and professional life. Take the quiz on this lesson here: http://www.engvid.com/how-to-introduce-yourself-other-people/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. I'm Rebecca from www.engvid.com. In this lesson, you'll learn how to introduce yourself and also how to introduce people who don't know each other. Now, sometimes, you learn a lot of English and you don't... You still feel nervous, you don't feel confident doing simple things. So, this is one of those simple, but important things, but you need to be able to do. To be able to walk up to someone, to introduce yourself, and also to know how to respond when someone does that. And that may be true, whether you're at a business conference or at a party. Okay? So, let's get started. So, here, first we'll talk about the formal situation. So, let's say we'll start over here. "Hello. I'm Bill White." Their response is: "Hi. I'm Susan Jones." So, he says, then: "It's a pleasure to meet you." And she says: "It's a pleasure to meet you, too." Okay? Pretty straightforward, pretty simple. Why? Because, especially at this part, you're just repeating what the other person says, except that you're adding the word: "too". Okay? Let's try it again. "Hello. I'm Bill White." Now, at that point, you probably want to also shake hands. So, let me mention that. So, the things that you should do in addition to what you say are these things: you should try to maintain a straight posture because you look more professional that way, especially in a business situation. In a North American context, also, we establish eye contact. All right? That shows that we're not afraid, that shows we're not hiding anything. All right? Shows confidence. And, you want to give a firm handshake. Okay? Don't keep your hand really weak. Keep it firm. Not hard. Don't squeeze the other person's hand, but make a firm handshake. And this is true whether you're a man or a woman. And usually, we smile because it's a little bit... It shows that you're a friendly person and you're happy to meet the other person, even in a business situation. So let's get started. And what I was saying is about the handshake, you could shake hands right here. So, you could say: "Hello. I'm Bill White." Or, you could say it at this point when you say: "It's a pleasure to meet you." Okay? -"Hello. I'm Bill White." -"Hi. I'm Susan Jones." -"It's a pleasure to meet you." -"It's a pleasure to meet you, too." And if you want, one thing you can do is to mention the person's name when you're saying: "It's a pleasure to meet you." Okay? But sometimes in a business context, you're not yet sure whether to say: "Ms. Jones", or: "Susan", so you could try it, and you could say: "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Jones." And she might say: "Oh, you can call me Susan. It's a pleasure to meet you, too." And so on. Okay? But main thing is this part is just repeated. Next, in an informal situation. So, here, instead of saying: "Hello", we're just going to say: -"Hi! Hi! I'm George." -"Hi! I'm Maria." -"Nice to meet you." -"Nice to meet you, too." Again, we're just repeating. So, what happened? Here, it's a little more formal, so we said: "It's a pleasure to meet you." And here, because it's informal, we just said: -"Nice to meet you." -"Nice to meet you, too." Okay? So, just repeat that. And also, instead of: "Hello", we're just saying: "Hi!" All right? -"Hi! I'm George." -"Hi! I'm Maria." -"Nice to meet you." -"Nice to meet you, too." Okay? So, try that. Next I'll show you how to introduce people who don't know each other. So, let's see how to introduce people to each other. First, we'll do this in a formal situation. Okay? So let's pretend in this scenario that there are three people. You are Carol Smith, and you know Scott Topper, and you know Steven Shaw, but they don't know each other. But you don't know that, so you have to find out first, because sometimes people do know each other. So, Carol is going to speak first. So, Carol knows both of them. All right? So she says... Carol Smith says: "Have you met each other?" So, let's say she turns to one of them or to either of them, and she says... So, Scott answers and he says: "No, we haven't." Sometimes this person will answer, sometimes both of those people will answer kind of at the same time, say: "No, we haven't." Doesn't matter. And then, Carol says, if it's a formal situation: "Mr. Topper, this is Mr. Shaw. Mr. Shaw, this is Mr. Topper." Now, sometimes this part is not necessary, because it's kind of obvious. So, usually... Usually, if you just say the first part, people will start introducing themselves then to each other or continue with the: "Pleasure to meet you." But if you want to know the traditional way in which it's done, it's done like that. Okay?
