The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. Not the skills of a solo marketer, or an individual contributor, but the skills your marketing manager needs. Build a plan to recruit, skill and measure your marketing team - http://register.funnelplan.com/ ------------------ So here's the problem: we use the term 'Marketing Manager' really loosely. Often we mean "marketer," individual, single marketer, working on their own with a bunch of salespeople or a bunch of engineers, sort of doesn't matter, and we call them "Marketing Manager," because it makes them feel good about their job. But for this blog, I wanted to give you what the skills of a Marketing Manager are, that is, a person who manages a team of marketers. All of those skills are great for the individual contributor. Let me show you the skills that I think a Marketing Manager needs. Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. What is CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER? What does CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER mean? CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER meaning - CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER definition - CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A chief marketing officer (CMO) or marketing director is a corporate executive responsible for marketing activities in an organization. Most often the position reports to the Chief executive officer. The CMO is also the Chief Influence Officer of the firm. He or she must bring the company together as one voice. The CMO leads Brand management, Marketing communications (including advertising, promotions and Public relations), market research, sales management, product development, distribution channel management, pricing, and customer service. The CMO is a member of the executive team and typically reports to the CEO. The day-to-day tasks are often categorically different from one another, due to the fluid nature of the CMO's skill set: language is needed to stitch together all aspects of the company. Thus, in a given day the CMO completes tasks that fall into many different categories: 1. Analytical tasks, such as pricing and market research, 2. Creative tasks such as designing advertising and promotions, 3. Interpersonal tasks such as coordinating many different styles of thinking in a single team. The CMO must quickly react to changing circumstances in the firm, and must shape the company's understanding of a particular product, sales strategy, or marketing idea. Each of these products comes from a different department, so the CMO must be a nexus of information: it is a highly receptive role, with involvement in departments such as production, information technology, corporate communications, documentation, public relations, law, human resources, and finance. In the 21st century, Digitalization and the rise of consumer-centric marketing has changed the role of the CMO. They are now typically finding themselves handling customer-facing technology implementations in addition to the above tasks. Gartner analyst Laura McLellan recently predicted that by 2017, CMOs will spend more on IT than their counterpart CIOs. According to analyst firm McKinsey, few senior-executive positions will be subject to as much change over the next few years as that of the chief marketing officer. Peers to the CMO include Chief human resources officer, Chief technology officer, Chief financial officer, Chief communications officer, Chief procurement officer, Chief information officer, and general counsel. The CMO is responsible for facilitating growth, sales and marketing strategy. He or she must work towards objectives such as revenue generation, cost reduction, or risk mitigation. The unpredictable effect of marketing efforts, coupled with the need to drive profits, often leads to a short tenure for most CMOs. Forbes reported that the average CMO tenure in 2008 was just over 28 months. According to a 2011 IBM global study of 1,734 CMOs around the world, CMOs see customer loyalty as their top priority in the digital area; their second priority is to design experiences for tablets and mobile apps. In the male-dominated technology industry, CMO is an executive role with a majority of women. For instance, one analysis indicated that six out of the ten top CMOs in Silicon Valley were women.

Product managers drive the vision, strategy, design, and execution of their product. While one can often quickly comprehend the basic responsibilities of the role, mastering each of these dimensions is truly an art form that one is constantly honing. In this presentation I'll share my lessons learned over the last decade as a product manager in Silicon Valley on the art behind each of these dimensions of product management. Sachin Rekhi is a serial entrepreneur and product leader who has spent the last decade developing innovative products in Silicon Valley. Sachin most recently founded Connected, a professional contact manager that was acquired by LinkedIn in 2011 and re-launched as LinkedIn Contacts. He went on become head of product for LinkedIn Sales Navigator, LinkedIn's flagship offering for sales professionals. Prior to Connected, Sachin founded Anywhere.FM, a web music player that allowed users to upload, play, and discover music online, which was acquired by imeem in 2008. Sachin started his career at Microsoft as a product lead on Visual Studio, Microsoft's developer tools platform. Sachin recently left LinkedIn and has been advising early-stage startups on product strategy, design, and growth.

#iitutor #BusinessStudies #OperationProcess https://www.iitutor.com Strategic means affecting all business functions. The strategic role of operations management is to contribute to the direction and plan of the business. The main goal of business is to minimise costs to maximise profits. A strategic role of operations is the management of costs. The different operations costs for a business are: Input costs, Labour costs, Processing costs, Inventory costs, Quality management. • Cost leadership aims to have the lowest costs and be the most prices competitive in the market. The business must still be profitable. Operations Management therefore must find ways to reduce costs in production. Example: Bunnings. A business can cut costs by increasing the scale/size of the business. How? By buying in bulk, the business is able to negotiate lower costs per unit. Goods/service differentiation: Tangible – they can be seen and touched. Tend to be standardised. Can be owned and transferred between people. Can take considerable time between production and consumption. Easy to determine costs by calculating inputs and adding margin. Services: Intangible. Generally customised. Cannot be owned. Production and consumption occurs at the same time. The value of a service depends on what the consumer is prepared to pay. Product Differentiation. Operations must find a way to distinguish their products from their competitors. This gives them a competitive advantage. This will differ between goods and services. Product Differentiation: Goods. Varying the actual product features. Operations search for ways to make their product features attractive to the consumer. Varying product quality. Making a low quality alternative to attract a different group of consumers. Varying the augmented features. This refers to add-ons or additional benefits. Product Differentiation: Services. Varying the amount of time spent on a service. Example: Hair salons. Varying the level of expertise brought to a service. Some service providers will offer a higher level of expertise. Varying the qualifications and experience of the service provider. This can be an important factor when consumers are choosing their service provider. Varying the quality of materials/ technology used in service delivery. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Medical technologies. Cross Branding: Operations may choose to offer consumers added benefits from a cross-branding arrangement.

This video demonstrates the day to day life of a production manager. In this video Kieran shows us the tasks that he has to do on a daily basis for G's marketing. A production manager is the person who plans, coordinates and controls the industrial process. The primary role of a production manager is to ensure that products are produced efficiently and to a high standard. In the video Kieran shows how he inspects the production process at several different stages from the fields in which the produce is grown to the packaging line where the produce is weighed and made ready for dispatch to supermarkets. Quality is something which is stressed throughout the entire video and Kieran is constantly on the lookout for any issues such as internal growth issues with the celery crop which the company produces. Kieran gives some advice at the end of the video to get involved in the industry from a young age and then to finish school. If you would like to be a production manager one day then a good option is to study a business and management course. East Durham College offers several courses in business including diplomas in first line management or an NVQ in management. If you would like more information on courses which could lead to a career in production management or any other aspect of business please visit our site. http://www.eastdurham.ac.uk

http://www.MarketingBeyondAdvertising.com When managing your marketing, how deep should marketing responsibilities run? In this edition of Monday Morning Marketing Quote, I discuss marketing management as it relates to your employees and their responsibilities. Today's quote is from Harry Beckwith and his classic book, Selling the Invisible: A Field Guide to Modern Marketing. "Marketing is not a department. It is your business. You can have great talent, products, prices, and advertising. But if that sales clerk at the end of the line fails, everything fails. The buyer doesn't return. And if the buyer suffers a very bad experience, he tells all his friends not to come, either. Everyone in your company is responsible for marketing your company." - Harry Beckwith For more marketing management strategies, tips and techniques please visit http://www.MarketingBeyondAdvertising.com

In Chapter 20 of 22 of his 2010 Capture Your Flag interview with host Erik Michielsen, international Internet product management executive Ramsey Pryor provides a product management career development framework. Pryor lists three stages of product management. The first is a mainline product manager role that provides opportunity to give birth to a product, go to market, and learn from the experience. The second stage is a group product manager role that includes managing a product family, defining the company product approach, and managing a product manager team. The third is a company product executive role such as VP Product, that includes managing resources, budget, sales and marketing relationships at an executive-facing level. Within these three groups, Pryor highlights an additional division between new product managers, or trailblazers, and mature product managers, or optimizers. Pryor encourages product managers to get experience in both areas and develop a preference. Pryor earned an MBA from the University of Navarra IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain and a BA in Economics and Spanish from Northwestern University.
