How To Write A Cover Letter (Example Included)

04:02
A well written cover letter could increase your chances of an interview by 50%. We'll show you how to write an awesome cover letter that impresses employers. Source : https://www.zipjob.com/blog/write-awesome-cover-letter-samples-included-zipjob/ Writing a good cover letter is a crucial step in the job search process, yet many people don’t write one or don’t put in the time to write an effective one. So how do you write the perfect cover letter? This short video will give you the necessary steps to create an effective cover letter that helps you land interviews. We often hear people ask - Do I need to send a cover letter? The answer is yes. You should always send a cover letter unless the job posting says no cover letter is required. The point of a cover letter is to give a bit of an introduction as to who you are, your interest in the position, and why you think you’d make a good fit. It also adds a human touch to the plain old boring resume. Ok, So let's get started…. The first thing we’re going to cover is the format and then we’ll cover the things you absolutely need to mention in your cover letter if you want to stand out from the hundreds of other job seekers. Ok let's take a look at how a cover letter should be formatted.. As you see in our template, your header should be your name , contact number and email address. You can keep it similar to the header on your resume but don’t include your address. You should then include the receiver's name, title, company name and address. If you can’t find the name of the hiring manager, you could leave that off. You can address the letter as “dear hiring manager” but always try to make an effort to find out the hiring manager in charge. You should try to keep your cover letter between a half a page to ⅔ of a page long. Remember that most employers only spend a few seconds going through your resume and cover letter. No one wants to read an in- depth page long cover letter. Three paragraphs is a good length and we’ll go through what each paragraph should contain - we’ll then show you an example of an excellent cover letter. Paragraph 1 should be an introduction to who you are and the position you’re applying for. Include where or how you found the opening, The title and a job ID number if there is one. You should also lead into the next paragraph by stating a brief summary of qualifications or your interest in the position. The second paragraph should discuss your qualifications and the achievements which show why you’re a good fit for the position. Remember that you want to stand out from the other hundreds of candidates that are applying for the position. So don’t just give examples of what you did in your last position, show how you went above and beyond. Mention a few examples of quantifiable or measurable achievements in your career. Use compelling language and don’t repeat the information in your resume. Try to bring your experience to life and this will encourage the reader to look into your resume in more detail. In the third and last paragraph, Close it out by saying you feel that you’re a good fit based on your qualifications. Remember, you should include a call of action - which in this case would be inviting you to an interview. Ask them to give you call and schedule in interview. And the The last thing you should do is thank them for taking the time out to consider you. Lets put this template into action. Here is an example of a great cover letter: Hi Susan, I’m writing to you to express my interest in the Accounting position you have open on your company website with the job ID# 11220. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and am confident that my experience and skill set would be a great match for this position. I have a strong knowledge of accounting principles backed by experience I have gained in the last 12 years. In my previous position, I managed the accounting of a financial consulting firm with over $30 million in revenue. I not only met expectations but exceeded them by increasing cash flow by $4 million. I helped achieve this by changing our accounts receivable policy and negotiating better contracts. There is more depth on my experience and skills in my resume which I would appreciate you looking over. I am certain that my experience and skill set would make me a great candidate for this position as well as a great asset to your company. Please give me a call at the number above to schedule an interview at your convenience. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, John Smith So there you have it. Remember to include these 3 points in your resume - * Who you are * Your qualifications and how they can benefit the employer * And a call to action asking to schedule an interview.

Creative Ways Your Resume Can Stand Out

02:07
Read more about crafting a creative resume HERE: http://www.careerealism.com/resume-stand-out-creative/#!beO3pn?utm_source=youtube-post&utm_medium=video-post&utm_campaign=CIRL_Creative_Resume Welcome to Career In Real Life! Join us every Thursday as we tackle the relatable parts of work and career while trying to put a smile on your face and maybe teach you something along the way. "Creative Ways Your Resume Can Stand Out" Here are the ones that we thought would be creative and make your resume really stand out: #1: Have a brown paper bag with lunch in it and have your resume either hand written or attached to it. You technically just bought the person who's receives your resume a free lunch! #2: Making your resume into something like origami can show your attention to detail, precision, and ability to think outside the box. #3: Using chocolate or candy to present your resume. Now this can be a hit or a miss if the person receiving doesn't like what type of candy you choose but it will have them remembering your name. #4: Attaching your resume to a nice cup of coffee. Again you run the risk of not picking the right flavor of the person receiving your resume but come on who doesn't drink coffee! #5: Lastly this is one we've heard stories about. Attaching your resume to a pair of shoes. Now this means you really have to research the hiring manager or whom ever is going to be reviewing your resume but if you get it right this could definitely get you a job or at least an interview. Another twist on this is sending them a show box with your resume but only having one shoe in it. If they would like the other shoe then they'll have to bring you in for an interview. What are other creative ways you can have your resume stand out? Tell us your ideas in the comments below! To get started, ask yourself some questions about your past jobs and your career goals. Before you even begin writing a resume, define the exact reasons why you need one. While this may sound simple, it takes more than saying, "I want to get a new job." Consider your career objective first. Make sure that your goals are specific in terms of industry, position title, and future professional achievements. Once you are clear on the type of job you are seeking, it will be much easier to compose a resume that highlights your expertise in the area of your interest. Once you have your career objective developed, do some research on a resume format that is most commonly used and may be most appropriate for your industry. Search the Internet or check out the books in your local library to get a better idea of what well-written professional resumes look like. Once you find a format that best suits your field and your career objective, use the same layout to get started. When listing your personal information at the top of the resume, include your address, home and/or mobile phone number, and your email address. A helpful hint about listing your email address -- make sure that it contains your name, as this helps you appear more professional. You can create a free Yahoo email account; it also maybe helpful to have one email address as a point of contact for your job search. Before you begin listing your experiences, make sure to list them out on a separate sheet of paper, in chronological order, starting with the most recent job you had (possibly the job you are presently holding). List up to five previous jobs you have held, although make sure that your resume does not exceed two pages in length. Make sure that are listed in order; do not skip any of your employments as this will create gaps in your professional history. When listing your education, start with your college attendance and move to your most recent accomplishments. If you never attended college, make sure to include any courses, even if they were taken as training at your previous jobs, which will help in showcasing your qualifications. In terms of skills, make sure to list, in bullet point form, all of the abilities that confirm that you are the best candidate for the job you are seeking. You can omit references from your resume, but let your potential employer know that you can provide them if necessary. You can do so in the cover letter or by including a line at the bottom of your resume that simply states, "Professional references available upon request." As your final check point, ask a friend or a family member to review your resume, and give you feedback. Having a second pair of eyes can help you correct any typos, or even bring to your attention anything that appears unclear or confusing. A well-written, error-free resume will help you put your best foot forward and get the job that exceeds your career goals.

You exchange information. You need to have the right responses to the employer’s questions. You need to ask good questions. You need the right background. You need to impress. 1. It’s about their future, not your past. You need to get the interviewers, the most senior interviewers, thinking into the future. If you can't get them to imagine what their life will be like and what their company will look like with you there, you'll never get hired. 2. Leaders are inclusive and inspiring. You need to be the high tide that lifts all the boats. Leaders build more leaders. They don't build more followers. You need to show them you're great at inspiring and inclusive. You're great at building teams. 3. Stay away from one-and-done questions because then you’ll be done. Specifically, I mean asking a great question, then receiving their response, and then moving on to the next question. That's the big mistake! The message you're sending to them is that you are a puddle skipper. You are not somebody who's digging deep to get information and collecting it all. You're not well researched. You’re not digging deep enough to get the information you need to make a good decision. -------------------- ABOUT ANDREW -------------------- Andrew LaCivita is an internationally recognized executive recruiter, award-winning author, trainer, and founder and chief executive officer of milewalk and the milewalk Academy. Barcelona vs Real Madrid (5-0)

of that stuff. Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid ( Xavi, Pedro, David Villa*2, Jeffren) Real Madrid were humiliated in the El Clasico on November 29, 2010 as Barcelona thrashed them 5-0 at the Nou Camp. The Spanish Prime Minister had predicted a 4-2 for Barcelona, but the Catalans did even better as they thrashed Los Blancos 5-0. It was billed as a Messi vs Ronaldo game, and Messi clearly won this one. Sergio Ramos also got sent off for Real Madrid.

How to make an architectural portfolio (for Architects, Interns and Students)

16:24
If you're making an architectural portfolio, or yours needs a refresh, this is your how-to guide. We'll review the key differences between paper and digital portfolios, and you'll learn why the best portfolio is the one you're able to keep updated with fresh content. I recommend you craft your portfolio as an integral part of a broader web-based promotion strategy. Your portfolio should - if possible - be available (and searchable) on your own, self-hosted website. Digital portfolio options: - App-based - on a tablet for example (Morpholio, Portfolio, etc.) - PDF - a document you can print or share - Web platform - hosted on someone else's platform (Behance, Issu, Coroflot, Houzz) - Website (self-hosted) - you own the domain, you control the online real estate. The only option I recommend today is the self-hosted website portfolio. I recommend using Squarespace to get started if you don't have one already. Their templates are modern, minimal, and you'll spend time on filling it with great work rather than fussing over the layout - the container. I recommend you take cues from the portfolios of other architects you'd like to work for or whose work you'd like to emulate. Study how they're compiling their portfolios. Learn from them. What to include: 1) Sketches 2) Academic vs. Built work 3) Models 4) Renders What Not to Include: 1) Work you didn't design 2) Old work 3) Lengthy text 4) Spelling errors 5) Poor photography 6) Construction documents 7) Irrelevant work experience 8) Hobbies I also discuss the best way to share your portfolio via email and let you in on an opportunity to have your portfolio reviewed by me on the channel (hint: you have to be a subscriber). // GEAR I USE // DSLR CAMERA: * Canon 70D: http://amzn.to/29klz7k LENSES: * Canon 24mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29l7ac5 * Canon 40mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29x2QcI AUDIO: * Rode VideoMic Pro (hotshoe mtd.): http://amzn.to/29qlNM3 * ATR-2100 USB (dynamic mic): http://amzn.to/2dFDaKp ARCHITECTURE GEAR: * Prismacolor Markers: http://thirtybyforty.com/markers * Timelapse Camera: http://thirtybyforty.com/brinno * AutoCAD LT: http://amzn.to/2dxjMDH * SketchUp PRO: http://amzn.to/2cRcojz * HP T120 Plotter: http://amzn.to/2dBGf1O * Adobe CC Photography (Photoshop/Lightroom) Plan: http://amzn.to/2dhq5ap STARTUP TOOLKIT: * Architect + Entrepreneur Startup Toolkit: http://thirtybyforty.com/SPL -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Studio Joy Works (Rick Joy's New Book) - My Review" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZPhhiLaOhg -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

USAJobs Resume Roadmap by CareerPro Global

02:10
Roadmap to Developing a USAJobs Resume What we've done is looked at the training currently available, and gotten the insight that most training available is a PowerPoint based lecture. When students attend these, they get a lot of information and take a lot of notes, but often leave without any kind of practical application. What we've done is created a workshop, where students follow a five-step process that allows them to either create or improve their pre-existing USAJobs resume. Here is an overview of the 5 steps: Step 1. Picking the right job: Find a job you want to apply for that really moves your career to the next level. Step 2. Identify the correct headlines and keywords in that job. This is an exercise in analysing what the employer is seeking for a current job, and matching these to your own experiences. Step 3. Develop a framework for your resume: Get the right headlines and keywords where they belong. You optimize the additional information section, and we show you some tricks of the trade. Step 4. Resume Writing: We'll teach you the difference between general job duties and specific accomplishments, because that is what makes a resume really shine. Step 5. Bring it all together: Check your character counts, and take administrative steps to ensure your resume upload is smooth and problem-free. Whether you're a military or a federal agency, we encourage you to call 1-800-471-9201 or visit http://www.careerproplus.com and get your workforce trained the right way.

Resume Tip: Treat Your Resume Like a Hard Sell

02:02
Paul Freiberger of Shimmering Resumes Presents: Treat Your Resume Like a Hard Sell No matter who you are, or where you are in your career, or what industry you’ve set your sights on, you deserve a professional resume that will help you stand out. You need a resume that will generate opportunities. At Shimmering Resumes I will help uncover the accomplishments in your career, making sure that your resume gives you the best chance to succeed. As a career counselor, I know that practical advice matters. Writing a resume makes many of us uneasy. The subject is you and it is always a challenge to write about yourself. Treat your resume like a hard sell. Don’t hold back. This is no time for modesty. A resume can be both functional and chronological. Or it can be one or the other. A resume can be one page. Or two. Or three. To develop the best resume you must make choices about each of these issues. First decide on the type of resume. Then you must gather the data which best supports your choice. Make sure that your resume is good-looking, easy to read, well organized, and keyword friendly. You need a resume that tells your story as forcefully and convincingly as possible. It should, in effect, sell your candidacy to a prospective employer. Most resumes don’t do that job very well, but there are some simple ways to create a resume that makes employers happy. Some of our advice relates to content, some to style, and some of it falls under the heading of “tips and tricks.” Once we share those tips and show you the tricks, you’ll be in a position to deliver a resume that works as hard as it possibly can on your behalf. In Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Leonardo DiCaprio, as stock-promoter Jordan Belfort, issues a similar challenge to his would-be associates in boiler-room shenanigans: “Sell me this pen!” The point of the exercise is to show them, despite the high opinions they hold of their own sales skills, that they don’t really know how to sell. They make all the rookie mistakes. They talk about how wonderful the pen is. They extol its beauty. They focus on its features. Take resumes, for example. You may have put a lot of effort into crafting a resume that looks great. It conveys loads of positive information in a beautifully organized and highly readable form, and that’s quite an accomplishment. It’s as close to perfect as can be, and it should make a wonderful impression on anyone who receives it. The world trembles in anticipation. Before you unleash this creature on that trembling world, take a step back. There’s every chance that the document you’ve created, beautiful though it may be, is a document that, first and foremost, looks good to you. That’s to be expected, but now it’s time to apply the buyer-first approach. It’s time to look at it through the eyes of the people who’ll be on the receiving end. 3 ways to customize your resume to get the job that you want

04:04
3 ways to customize your resume to get the job that you want http://infoforu.org/amazingresumes While most resumes appear to look the same on the surface, there are key areas that differentiate well-written winning resumes from those that never make it into the hands of the hiring managers. To customize your resume for the job that you want, pay attention to the following three elements: resume style, career objective, and personal profile. The layout and the style of your resume are as important as the information you are including about your experience and qualifications. The two most commonly used resume styles are chronological and functional. Chronological resume calls for listing your professional expertise in order, much like the name implies, and is used those with some to extensive professional experience. Functional resume showcases your experience by the type of qualifications you have, and is typically used by those lacking professional experience or those changing careers. While there are no set rules on determining the best resume style to use, it is important to keep in mind that the resume format can help or hurt your chances to put your best foot forward. You will want to pick the format that will best highlight your qualifications and your experience. Thus, it is important to understand the difference between the two, as well as research which format is more preferred in the field of your choice. Career objective is very important to your resume. While there is an ongoing debate about the need for listing your objective on your resume, choosing to include this goal statement shows that you have given your professional growth some serious thought. Consider your career objective as the first impression you make on your potential employer. Make sure that your goals are specific and directional in terms of industry, position title, and future professional achievements. Most people make a mistake of including generic statements under their career objective. To be effective, your statement must tell a potential employer that you know what kind of job you want, what experience you have in order to get the position, and what you are willing do to become a successful professional with the company. While your career objective tells your potential employer why you are applying for the job at their organization, your professional profile sells your expertise and convinces the employer that you are the best candidate for the job. Your professional summary/profile gives you the opportunity to differentiate yourself, and give your employer an insight into you. Two commonly made mistakes for this section of the resume are poor writing and inclusion of personal information. Note that your age, ethnicity, gender, religious affiliations, etc. do not make a difference on how you handle yourself as a business professional. Such information should never be included in a resume, or any job application materials (even when asked on a job application, such information is optional and is for demographics study only). Make sure this section is well written and error-free. Strong positive statements about your expertise will give a good first impression to your employer. Make sure to proofread the whole resume, with emphasis to this section, as it appears at the start of your resume. An effective personal statement must leave your employer with an impression that you are confident, credible, and professional. Keep in mind -- your resume is your sales pitch, demonstrating your qualifications and experience to your potential employer. Seize the opportunity to put your best foot forward and you will reap the rewards.
