jQuery video tutorial 10 - jQuery CSS Method

11:07
jQuery CSS() Method: The jQuery CSS() method is used to set one or more CSS style(s) to the selected HTML element(s). It is also used to get the value of a CSS style applied to the selected HTML element(s). Setting the single CSS style or property: Syntax: $(selector).css(“css-property”,”value”); It helps us to select any html element(s) targeted by the given selector and apply the given CSS property. Ex: $(“#firstp”).css(“background-color”,”red”); It selects any html element(s) whose id attribute value is set to firstp and applies the CSS property background color to red . Setting multiple CSS styles or properties: Syntax: $(selector).css({“css-property1”:”value1”,” css-property2”:”value2”,….}); It helps us to select any html element(s) targeted by the given selector and apply the given set of CSS properties. Ex: $(“#firstp”).css({“background-color”:”green”,”color”:”white”}); It selects any html element(s) whose id attribute value is set to firstp and applies the CSS properties background color green and text color white . Getting the value of a single CSS style or property: Syntax: $(selector).css(“css property”); It helps us to select any html element(s) targeted by the given selector and return the value of a given CSS property. Ex: alert($(“#firstp”).css(“background-color”)); It selects any html element(s) whose id attribute value is set to firstp and returns the value of background-color CSS property. The current implementation of the CSS() method in jQuery allows us to set multiple CSS properties to the selected HTML element(s), but only allows us to get one CSS property at a time. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/HpRdrhCq158 Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/UvMuWgBzIHc ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/chidrestechtu... This widget is in interactions category on the jQuery UI website. http://jqueryui.com/draggable/ Consider the following HTML <div id="draggableDiv" class="divClass"> Drag me around </div> .divClass { height: 200px; width: 200px; background-color: red; color: white; display:table-cell; vertical-align:middle; text-align:center; } To make the above div element draggable $('#draggableDiv').draggable(); Some of the useful options to customize the draggable widget axis - Constrains dragging to either x or y axis containment - Constrains dragging to within the bounds of the specified element or region cursor - The CSS style of the cursor during the drag operation opacity - opacity during the drag operation revert - Boolean property that specifies if the element should revert to its start position when dragging stops revertDuration - The duration of the revert animation, in milliseconds snap - Specifies whether the element being dragged should snap to other elements. Value can be boolean or a selector. When set to true, the element will snap to all other draggable elements. When a selector is specified the element being dragged will snap to the element specified by the selector snapTolerance - The distance in pixels between the element being dragged and the element to which to snap to, at which snapping should occur. cancel - Prevents dragging from starting on specified elements Constrains dragging to x axis $('#draggableDiv').draggable({ axis : 'x' }); Constrains dragging to within the bounds of the parent element HTML <div id="containerDiv" style="height:300px; width:300px; border:3px solid black"> <div id="draggableDiv" class="divClass"> Drag me around </div> </div> jQuery $('#draggableDiv').draggable({ containment : 'parent' }); Changes the cursor style to "move" during the drag operation $('#draggableDiv').draggable({ cursor: 'move' }); Changes the opacity to 0.3 during the drag operation $('#draggableDiv').draggable({ opacity : '0.3' }); Reverts the div element to its start position when dragging stops. Revert animation completes in 1000 milli-seconds. $('#draggableDiv').draggable({ revert: true, revertDuration : 1000 }); The following example 1. Snaps the coloured div elements to the div element with thick black border. 2. The snapping occurs as soon as the distance between any of the coloured div element and the div element with thick black border is 50 pixels 3. The cancel option cancels dragging from starting on the div element with thick black border HTML <div id="redDiv" class="divClass" style="background-color: red"> Red Div </div> <div id="greeDiv" class="divClass" style="background-color: green"> Green Div </div> <div id="blueDiv" class="divClass" style="background-color: blue"> Blue Div </div> <div id="brownDiv" class="divClass" style="background-color: brown"> Brown Div </div> <br /> <br /> <div id="snapDiv" style="height: 400px; width: 400px; border: 5px solid black"> </div> Style .divClass { height: 200px; width: 200px; color: white; display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; text-align: center; } jQuery $('div').draggable({ snap: '#snapDiv', snapTolerance: 50, cancel : '#snapDiv' });

hide paragraph in html using Jquery

03:01
This Video shows how to create a simple hide application in ASP.NET using jQuery. Please check code in comment section. The .hide() and .show() methods, without any parameters can be like smart shorthand methods for .css('display', 'string'), where 'string' is the appropriate display value. The effect, as might be expected, is that the matched set of elements will be immediately hidden or shown without animation. The .hide() method sets the inline style attribute of the matched set of elements to display: none. Even smart part here is that it remembers the value of the display property typically blocks or inline before it was changed to none. And the .show() method restores display properties of the matched set of elements to whatever they initially were before "display: none" was applied.

How to Create Pure CSS Tooltip Without Using jQuery or Javascript

13:14
How to Create Pure CSS3 and HTML5 Tooltip Without Using jQuery or Javascript with demo example. You are going to create pure CSS tooltip using single html anchor tag. We are just using a single html anchor element and html5 data attribute to create a stylish tooltip with left arrow using pure css only and utilizing css3 after and before selectors. No other tags are used or neither any javascript or jquery. Everything we do is just by using CSS only. Download tooltip source code from codepen: https://codepen.io/smashtheshell/pen/bVoXjW In this video you'll learn to create a css tooltip also known as css infotip or hint message. I am going to explain every bit possible, related to html5 css3 tooltip only. You will see how its easy to create html5 toolip using css properties only. Key takeaways from this html5 css3 based tooltip video tutorial You will learn to use: - HTML5 data attribute to set the tooltip title - CSS3 after and before pseudo selectors to create tooltip left arrow without images. - CSS3 transitions add css tooltip animation - CSS3 attrib() method and CSS content property to retrieve data from the html5 data-attribute from anchor tag. - And finally you will create an amazing tooltip css only and adding animation to your tooltip. Basically tooltip is used to display information to the user when they hover over their cursor to some images, icons, text or links. Tooltips can be very useful to display information when there is space constraints in design. By using infotip or hint you can display long descriptions to the user without affecting your design. Creating tooltips using pure css have never been so easier, but here you'll see the clever use of CSS3 after and before pseudo selector and the most importantly you will see the use of content property of CSS3 and its attrib() method, By using attrib() method we'll fetch the information from the element's attribute. You'll learn how to create a custom attribute to an element and then fetch information from this attribute to your document by mere use of CSS3 content property. Then I'll style the information and initially make it hidden by setting its opacity to none and visibility property to hidden. And on the hover state I'll show you how to again use after & before pseudo selectors to display the tooltip. You'll also learn to create the triangle shape speech bubble using pure CSS3. For this I'll be using CSS3 Border property. You can create triangle by setting the one side of border to solid color and other two sides of the border to solid transparent. Finally, In this video lots of stuffed is packed. Just watch this video and reveals the powerful magic of CSS3. One thing to mention here friends, Please do not forget to provide feedback in comments section. HTML5 Basics - Display Types (Part5)

07:06
In this video we are going to talk about something inherent to html tags: display types. Display types define how the tags behave when rendered by the browser. We can use Style Sheets to change these at any time, but each tag has a default behavior and its important to understand how they will work when you are describing your page when writing the initial markup. Got that? # Three Types There are a lot, but we are going to concern ourselves with three main display styles. # Block Block level elements are big blocks, just like they sound. They are generally used to divide content, because by default block level elements begin on new lines. Block-level elements may contain inline elements and other block-level elements. Inherent in this structural distinction is the idea that block elements create "larger" structures than inline elements. An example is a "p" tag, that sections off the whole paragraph, and forces the next paragraph tag to a new line. Check out the notes below for a link to a list of all the block level tags in HTML. [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Block-level_elements] # Inline Inline elements may contain only data and other inline elements. Where block level elements are larger structures that contain all kinds a crap. By default, inline elements do not begin with new line when rendered by the browser. An example of this would be to wrap some words in your paragraph in an "a" tag. the words become a link, but the link does not start a new line in the paragraph, or disrupt the flow of content. It just sits inline in the paragraph. When we get to styling our document, we will note that inline elements cannot take width, height, margin and padding styles. For more on that check out this link [http://www.maxdesign.com.au/articles/inline/] # Inline-block This is the strange, but handy one. An inline block is placed inline (ie. on the same line as adjacent content), but it behaves as a block. So it can take those margins and paddings and dimensions. The only tags that default to inline-block are images and buttons. But with css, later on we will see that we can change any element to inline-block if we want to. Check out the link below for more information on inline-block [http://www.impressivewebs.com/inline-block/] # Display None & Table and others... There are other default display types that all have their little display behavior quirks; like display:table, or display:none. And there are a lot of interesting display methods on the horizon in css3, but today we wanted to just talk about how the html tags cary certain display types by default.

jQuery add event handler to dynamically created element

09:15
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/04/jquery-add-event-handler-to-dynamically.html In this video we will discuss, how to add event handlers to dynamically created elements. Let us understand this with an example. The following example, allows us to dynamically create new list item (li), attach a click event handler and add it to the unordered list (ul). This happens when you click "Add a New List Item" button. The problem with this approach is that we are binding a click event handler to every list item. This means if you have 500 list items, then there will be 500 event handlers in the memory and this may negatively affect the performance of your application. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { var newListItem = $('<li>New List Item</li>').on('click', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('ul').append(newListItem); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html> A better way of doing the same from a performance standpoint is shown below. In this example, the click event handler is attached to the listitem (li) parent element (ul). Even if you have 500 list items, there is only one click event handler in memory. So how does this work 1. When you click on a list item (li), the event gets bubbled up to its parent (ul) as the list item (li) does not have an event handler 2. The bubbled event is handled by the the parent (ul) element, as it has a click event handler. 3. When a new list item is added dynamicaly, you don't have to add the click event handler to it. Since the newly created list item (li) is added to the same parent element (ul), the click event of this list item also gets bubbled upto the same parent and will be handled by it. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('ul').on('click', 'li', function () { $(this).fadeOut(500); }); $('#btnAdd').on('click', function () { $('ul').append('<li>New List Item</li>'); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <input id="btnAdd" type="button" value="Add a New List Item" /> <ul> <li>List Item</li> <li>List Item</li> </ul> </body> </html>

Select values of checkbox group with jquery

12:22
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/03/select-values-of-checkbox-group-with.html In this video we will discuss, how to select values of checked checkboxes that are in different groups using jQuery. Along the way, we will also discuss how to pass a variable to jquery selector. If you have just one group of checkboxes on your page, to get all the checked checkboxes you can use $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked'). However, if you have more than one checkbox group, then $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked') is going to select all checked checkboxes from both the checkbox groups. If you prefer to get checked checkboxes from a specific checkbox group, depending on which button you have clicked, you can use $('input[name="skills"]:checked') or $('input[name="cities"]:checked'). This will ensure that the checked checkboxes from only the skills or cities checkbox group are selected. Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol. At the moment to get the checked checkboxes values, we are using a button click event. You can also use the click event of the checkbox to do this. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('input[name="skills"]').click(function () { getSelectedCheckBoxes('skills'); }); $('input[name="cities"]').click(function () { getSelectedCheckBoxes('cities'); }); var getSelectedCheckBoxes = function (groupName) { var result = $('input[name="' + groupName + '"]:checked'); if (result.length > 0) { var resultString = result.length + " checkboxe(s) checked<br/>"; result.each(function () { resultString += $(this).val() + "<br/>"; }); $('#div' + groupName).html(resultString); } else { $('#div' + groupName).html("No checkbox checked"); } }; }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Skills : <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="JavaScript" />JavaScript <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="jQuery" />jQuery <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="C#" />C# <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="VB" />VB <br /><br /> Preferred Cities : <input type="checkbox" name="cities" value="New York" />New York <input type="checkbox" name="cities" value="New Delhi" />New Delhi <input type="checkbox" name="cities" value="London" />London <br /><br /> Selected Skills:<br /> <div id="divskills"></div> <br /> Selected Cities:<br /> <div id="divcities"></div> </body> </html>

In this video, we will see how to enable dates after a specific date using minDate option and how to enable dates before a specific date using maxDate option. These options are really useful when you have to enable or disable consecutive dates in jQuery UI Datepicker. You can set the value of minDate and maxDate in the form of a Date object, number or string. If you set the value of minDate to new Date(2015, 0, 5), then dates till 5th January 2015 will be disabled. In other words, only dates from 5th January 2015 will be selectable or clickable. If you set the value of minDate to -2, then only dates from day before yesterday (2 days before today) will be enabled. If you set the value of minDate to -1m (y for year, m for month, w for week and d for day), only dates from one month before will be selectable. If you set the value of minDate to 0, only dates from current day (today) will be enabled. Similar is the case with maxDate. jQuery each function

Use of jQuery each function 2. How to exit from each function in jQuery 3. Implicit iteration in jQuery 4. Performance considerations when using jquery each function jQuery each function is used to iterate over the items in a collection. For each item in the collection the anonymous function is called. The index of the element and the element itself are passed to the anonymous function. $('li').each(function (index, element) { alert(index + ' : ' + $(element).text()); }); To refer to the current element that we are iterating over you can also use this keyword. $('li').each(function (index) { alert(index + ' : ' + $(this).text()); }); If you don't care about the index and just need the text of the list item, then you can get rid of the index parameter $('li').each(function () { alert($(this).text()); }); Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol How to exit from each function in jQuery : To exit from each function, return false. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').each(function () { if ($(this).text() == 'UK') { return false; } alert($(this).text()); }); }); </script> Implicit iteration in jQuery : The $('li') selector returns all list item elements. Notice that we are calling the css() jquery function on the jquery collection itself. In this case, css() method implicitly iterates over each element in the entire collection. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').css('color', 'red'); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <ul> <li>US</li> <li>India</li> <li>UK</li> <li>Canada</li> <li>Australia</li> </ul> </body> </html> There is no need to explicitly iterate over each element in the collection. Most jQuery methods implicitly iterate over the entire collection. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').each(function () { $(this).css('color', 'red'); }); }); </script> Performance considerations when using jquery each function <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('li').each(function () { $('#divResult').html($('#divResult').html() + '<br/>' + $(this).text()) }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> <ul> <li>US</li> <li>India</li> <li>UK</li> <li>Canada</li> <li>Australia</li> </ul> <div id="divResult"></div> </body> </html> From a performance standpoint, there are 2 problems with the above code. 1. jQuery needs to search the DOM for div element with id = divResult, for each list item in the collection. Since there are 5 list items, jquery searches the DOM 5 times for the same div element with id = divResult. The performance of the above code can be improved by caching the divResult element. 2. The DOM element (div element with id = divResult) is being updated on each iteration. Again this is bad for performance. To improve the performance build a string variable with the required data on each iteration of the loop. Once the loop has completed, update the DOM element with the value that is present in the string varibale. This will ensure that the DOM element is updated only once and this is much better for performance. The following is much better from a performance standpoint. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { var result = ''; $('li').each(function () { result += '<br/>' + $(this).text(); }); $('#divResult').html(result); }); </script>

We discussed how to do exactly the same thing using raw JavaScript in Part 41 of JavaScript tutorial. When you click on the image thumnail, the respective image should be displayed in the main section of the page. For the purpose of this demo we will be using the images that can be found on any windows machine at the following path. C:\Users\Public\Pictures\Sample Pictures Step 1 : Open Visual Studio and create a new empty asp.net web application project. Name it Demo. Step 2 : Right click on the Project Name in Solution Explorer in Visual Studio and create a new folder with name = Images. Step 3 : Copy images from C:\Users\Public\Pictures\Sample Pictures to Images folder in your project. Step 4 : Right click on the Project Name in Solution Explorer in Visual Studio and add a new HTML Page. It should automatically add HTMLPage1.htm. Step 5 : Add a reference to the download jQuery file. I am using jquery-1.11.2.js version for this demo. Step 6 : Copy and paste the following HTML and jQuery code in HTMLPage1.htm page. Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> .imgStyle { width: 100px; height: 100px; border: 3px solid grey; } </style> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#divId img').on({ mouseover: function () { $(this).css({ 'cursor': 'hand', 'border-Color': 'red' }); }, mouseout: function () { $(this).css({ 'cursor': 'default', 'border-Color': 'grey' }); }, click: function () { var imageURL = $(this).attr('src'); $('#mainImage').fadeOut(500, function () { $(this).attr('src', imageURL); }).fadeIn(500); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <img id="mainImage" style="border:3px solid grey" src="/Images/Hydrangeas.jpg" height="500" width="540" /> <br /> <div id="divId"> <img class="imgStyle" src="/Images/Hydrangeas.jpg" /> <img class="imgStyle" src="/Images/Jellyfish.jpg" /> <img class="imgStyle" src="/Images/Koala.jpg" /> <img class="imgStyle" src="/Images/Penguins.jpg" /> <img class="imgStyle" src="/Images/Tulips.jpg" /> </div> </body> </html> In our next video, we will discuss how to make this image gallery a bit more efficient using the concept of event bubbling.

jQuery video tutorial 15 - jQuery Combination selector

13:40
jQuery Combination selector To select HTML element(s) as specifically as possible, we use jQuery combination selector. Note: For more specific selection of HTML element(s), In CSS it is possible to combine selectors, which is called as CSS combination selector. To combine selectors; we place selectors one beside another without any separator. i.e. selector1selector2… Ex: tagselectorclassselector, tagselectoridselector, tagselectoridselectorattributeselector etc. Syntax of jQuery Combination selector: $(“CSS combination selector”).action(parameters); To the jQuery function, if we pass the CSS combination selector then it is called as jQuery combination selector. I.e. a jQuery function with CSS combination selector as a parameter is called as jQuery combination selector. EX: $(“selector1selector2…”).action(parameters); To the jQuery function, if we pass multiple selectors without any separator then it is called as jQuery combination selector Ex: $("h1.redBorder").css("border","2px bouble red"); It selects any h1 element on the page, whose class attribute value set to redBorder and applies the border of 2px double red $("p.redBorder").css("border","2px solid red"); It selects any p element on the page, whose class attribute value set to redBorder and applies the border of 2px solid red $("p.redBorder[align=right]").css("border","2px dotted red"); It selects any p element on the page, whose class attribute value set to redBorder, aligned right and applies the border of 2px dotted red ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/DU5bpUPZ5n8 Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/NaA4H5TVdDk ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/chidrestechtu...
