Deanna Durbin - The Last Rose of Summer

02:05
Three Smart Girls Grow Up (1939) lyrics: 'Tis the last rose of summer left blooming alone All her lovely companions are faded and gone No flower of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh To reflect back her blushes and give sigh for sigh I'll not leave thee, thou lone one, to pine on the stem Since the lovely are sleeping, go sleep thou with them Thus kindly I scatter thy leaves o'er the bed Where thy mates of the garden lie scentless and dead So soon may I follow when friendships decay And from love's shining circle the gems drop away When true hearts lie withered and fond ones are flown Oh who would inhabit this bleak world alone? This bleak world alone

Deanna Durbin sings IL BACIO (THE KISS)

03:19
14 year old Deanna Durbin sings IL BACIO from "Three smart girls" movie. Here it's in full. Ah! Vieni! ah vien! più non tardare! a me! Ah vien! nell'ebbrezza d'un amplesso ch'io viva! Ah!

Remembering Deanna Durbin (R.I.P.)

03:46
This tribute was originally made by me & uploaded in May of 2013, as a dedication tribute to the beautiful Deanna Durbin who passed away on April 20, 2013 at the age of 91. This video was dedicated to her in memory. but I had to restored some of the old picture & the same song including some new pictures since I couldn't find any old ones for this recreation tribute to Deanna Durbin. This video is still dedicated to her in memory. Deanna Durbin was born Edna Mae Durbin on December 4, 1921, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her British-born parents moved to California while she was still young, and her singing voice soon had talent scouts knocking at her door. She signed a contract with MGM in 1936, at the age of 14, which resulted in her appearance in Every Sunday (1936), a short that also starred Judy Garland. Deanna was dropped by MGM but was immediately picked up by Universal Pictures, which cast her in the role of Penny Craig in Three Smart Girls (1936). While preparing for the role she was coached intensely by director Henry Koster; it's doubtful she would have been the star she was had it not been for Koster. The profits from this film and its follow-up, One Hundred Men and a Girl (1937), rescued Universal from bankruptcy. The studio quickly capitalized on these hits, casting Deanna in two successive and highly acclaimed films, That Certain Age (1938) and Mad About Music (1938). With these films Deanna became Hollywood's darling. She reprised her role of Penny Craig in Three Smart Girls Grow Up (1939). Deanna was such a hit that she shared the Academy Award's 1939 Juvenile Award with Mickey Rooney "for their significant contribution in bringing to the screen the spirit and personification of youth, and as juvenile players, setting high standards of ability and achievement". Deanna's singing and acting ability had the world talking. There was no doubt she was the most popular performer of her day. She was, however, by nature a very private individual, never comfortable with the glitz, glamor and publicity that came with stardom. Despite her uneasiness, she continued to churn out hits and kept the public enthralled. In 1943 she played Penny Craig again, for the third time, in Hers to Hold (1943). Deanna's final film was For the Love of Mary (1948), whereupon, at the age of 27, she simply walked away. For a star of her stature, that took a tremendous amount of courage. All she wanted was to be anonymous. Today Deanna lives in France, just outside Paris, with her third husband, French director Charles David, whom she wed in 1950. She has had numerous offers to return to the screen and has turned them all down. She has granted only one interview since 1949, film historian David Shipman interviewed her in 1983. Such is her appeal, however, even after all these years, that she still gets fan mail and requests for autographs. Henry Koster did, indeed, create a legend!. She passed away on April 20, 2013 in Neauphle-le-Château, Yvelines, France at the age of 91. She will still be remember by her fans forever.

TEXACO TOWN 27 12 1936 WITH TED LEWIS DEANNA DURBIN EDDI

29:44
When a teenage Deanna Durbin appeared on screen in the 1930s, wearing a decorous white dress with her hands clasped together, singing with a bell-like purity, audiences sighed contentedly. And so did film and music executives. In the days when child stars were wholesome, Durbin was everyone's idea of the perfect girl next door, and she was a huge money-spinner. Audiences flocked to see her musical comedies and, after she had trilled numbers such as It's Raining Sunbeams (in the film One Hundred Men and a Girl, 1937), Home Sweet Home (in First Love, 1939) and Waltzing in the Clouds (in Spring Parade, 1940), her fans queued to buy the latest record bearing her name. Durbin, who has died aged 91, was the antithesis of the Hollywood glamour girl – which made her the kind of star that teachers liked to offer as an example to their students. Her films were tailored to fit both her personality, which made the word "vivacious" seem like an understatement, and her singing voice, which was feminine, sweet, mature beyond her years and extraordinarily powerful. In 1939, Durbin, aged 17, and her fellow child star Mickey Rooney were awarded special Oscars "for their significant contribution in bringing to the screen the spirit and personification of youth and, as juvenile players, setting a high standard of ability and achievement". Ten years and fewer than 20 films later, she suddenly announced her retirement from show business. She was born Edna Mae Durbin in Winnipeg, Canada. Her parents took her to live in California when she was a baby. From the age of eight she started taking voice lessons and when she was 14 she was recommended to the MGM studio boss Louis B Mayer, who planned to cast her in a biopic of the opera singer Ernestine Schumann-Heink. She was due to play the diva as a child, but the film was never made. In those days, there was a way into movies that is no longer available: the studio put her into what was called a "short subject", and allowed the public to judge. In 1936, audiences saw her in the short Every Sunday and approved; Mayer saw it and did not. Judy Garland was also featured in the film and she and Durbin sang together, but the much more gauche-looking Garland appealed more to the mogul than the prettier Durbin, who he decided was a little too womanly for what he had in mind. Three Smart Girls, 1936 Durbin, centre, in Three Smart Girls, 1936, with Barbara Read, left, and Nan Grey. Photograph: Everett/Rex Mayer let her go, but his notion of box-office poison was another studio's sweet success. Universal was going broke and the idea of a new star who had two very obvious advantages – she had great talent and came very cheap – was extremely tempting. Universal cast Durbin in a film called Three Smart Girls (1936), about a trio of plucky sisters determined to reunite their estranged parents. Its box-office success is generally held to have been responsible for saving the studio from bankruptcy. The film, combined with her appearance on Eddie Cantor's radio show in 1936, announced her as a new star. In the late 1930s and through much of the 40s, Durbin was a top box-office attraction. She was prolific, too: her second film, One Hundred Men and a Girl (with an orchestra conducted by Leopold Stokowski), was followed by Mad About Music (1938), in which she played a girl with a rich imagination; That Certain Age (1938), co-written by Billy Wilder; and Three Smart Girls Grow Up (1939), a sequel to her debut feature, with the sisters this time caught up in a romantic conflict. When Durbin had her first screen kiss – with Robert Stack in First Love, a riff on the Cinderella plot – it filled columns in the American newspapers for weeks. Advertisement In It's a Date (1940), Kay Francis and Durbin played mother-and-daughter actors. The New York Times's reviewer noted a "plot which leaks at every pore" but praised "the young-girlish magic which [Durbin] is able to evoke with her pretty personality and

DEANNA DURBIN SINGS - A HEARTS THATS FREE - 1936

02:41
Edna Mae Durbin (December 4, 1921 – April 20, 2013), known professionally as Deanna Durbin, was a Canadian actress and singer, who appeared in musical films in the 1930s and 1940s. With the technical skill and vocal range of a legitimate lyric soprano, she performed many styles from popular standards to operatic arias. Durbin made her first film appearance with Judy Garland in Every Sunday (1936), and subsequently signed a contract with Universal Studios. Her success as the ideal teenaged daughter in films such as Three Smart Girls (1936) was credited with saving the studio from bankruptcy.[2] In 1938, at the age of 17, Durbin was awarded the Academy Juvenile Award. As she matured, Durbin grew dissatisfied with the girl-next-door roles assigned to her, and attempted to portray a more womanly and sophisticated style. The film noir Christmas Holiday (1944) and the whodunit Lady on a Train (1945) were, however, not as well received as her musical comedies and romances had been. Durbin retired from acting and singing in 1949, and withdrew from public life. She married film producer-director Charles Henri David in 1950, and the couple moved to a farmhouse near Paris.

39 SMART HACKS THAT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE

13:38
Surviving tricks you should know Being a life-threatening situation or an accident is very unexpected, yet most of us refuse to learn some surviving tips and tricks because we feel that getting familiar with these hacks will cause an accident. However, knowing some of the key surviving hacks that we offer can actually save someone's life. So, in this video, we wanted to educate you and help you in any dangerous situation you might face in the future with these hacks that we compiled in our video. What would you do if you ever slipped and had a painful cut on your knee? The obvious answer would be to put some rubbing alcohol on the wound to clean it, however, the best thing to do is to take some bandage, or a tampon and seal the wound in order to prevent any bacteria and dirt from entering your bloodstream until you get professional help. If you are ever into a crowd and you accidentally fall, to avoid a stampede, immediately grab someone's foot or pants and climb up. In the event of an earthquake, don't hide directly under a table, this can cause something heavy to fall in the middle of the table and either trap you or hurt you. It's a lot safer to protect yourself under the side of the table where the table's legs are more steady and will protect you. If you are in a situation where a fire breaks out in a building, place a wet cloth in front of your nose and mouth to filter out the smoke. Instead of standing up trying to escape a smokey room, you should crawl under the smoke. Smoke naturally goes up, so usually, the lower parts of the room have less smoke. Watch our whole video to discover many more brilliant lifehacks for you. We show you how to some awesome life-saving clothing hacks, and ways to turn everyday objects into anything. For example how to turn a toothbrush into a cutting knife and how to make your own foundation using coffee and body lotion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timestamps: 0:06 - Life-saving hacks in dangerous situations 0:58 - What to do during an earthquake 2:35 - Cute sleeveless shirt hack 3:13 - Blowdry your hair faster 3:53 - Remove pet hair from your shirt 5:19 - Candy hack 6:07 - Heatless beach waves 6:24 - DIY Foundation 6:50 - How to escape handcuffs 8:04 - Camping hacks 10:08 - How to unscrew a broken light bulb 11:13 - DIY bag cooler 12:13 - DIY candle ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5Minute.Crafts.Girly/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ 5-Minute Crafts KIDS: https://goo.gl/PEuLVt The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/ Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind. Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Their story is said to have inspired Beauty and the Beast. -Francesco Lentini had 3 legs but learned to ride a bike and play football, and he was so amazing at all of this that at the age of 8 he went to the US and became a circus performer. -The exceptional abilities of Christian Heinrich Heineken were obvious from a very young age. At just 10 months old, Christian could already speak, repeating the names of objects and sometimes even fully formed sentences. -At the age of 15, Anna Haining Swan was already 6’ 8" tall and weighed around 220 lb. When she was 25, she fell in love with a circus performer named Martin Bates. He reached 6’ 8" by the time he turned 14. -William Milligan was born in 1955 in Florida and had a rare psychological disorder, which made him have 24 full-fledged personalities who were not responsible for each other’s actions. -Ella Harper was born with recurved knees that bent in the opposite direction to normal knees. The only way she could get around was on all fours. -June and Jennifer Gibbons were born in 1963 in Barbados. From their very first days, the girls were quiet and didn’t communicate with anyone. As it turned out, June and Jennifer had a difficult and complicated relationship and expressed their love and hate for one another in their diaries. I Hated Being the Tall Girl in School

03:09
By Jasmine | Ready to "wear it out loud?” Merch store open, SHOP NOW: http://bit.ly/storybooth-merch | Subscribe: http://bit.ly/sub2storybooth | Record your story @ https://storybooth.com or our iPhone app for a chance to get animated. Comment, like, share this story. Jasmine is 18 years old, lives in China, AND is six feet tall! That's tall no matter where you live, but in China it is ver very tall, and especially for a girl. She wasn't very tall when she was in elementary school - just like all the other kids in her grade - but, in seventh grade, when she hit puberty and started developing, she grew nearly fifteen centimeters in that one year. That growth changed everything for her. Her classmates were all much much shorter than she was, and somehow that ended up having them leave her out of tons of activities and projects. On top of al of that, and how different she now felt from the rest of her old friends and classmates, shopping for clothes became a real challenge. It go so hard that ended up having to shop for mens clothes and the big and tall shops. Her dreams of dressing up like the other girls and using make up and fitting in a feeling beautiful, well, it just never quite worked out that way for her. The fact that she was "the tall girl" had her singled out and friend-less. Unfortunately, she got used to it, being a loner, the tall girl, and after awhile she learned how not to let it bother her. In fact, she convinced herself that it was better, and easier - after all, now she pretty much wore the same black t-shirt every day and never had to worry about putting on make up or flirting with boys or any of that. Jasmine is even taller than most of the boys in her class, and that makes it hard as well. She's tried to join in on activities with the other girls in her class. but there is something uncomfortable about it and it seems that none of the other kids want to hang out with someone who is so much taller than them. Sometimes she really just hates her body. She knows of course that fashion models are all tall as well, but Jasmine doesn't feel pretty in any way, so it doesn't help much to think about that. And it doesn't help that the other kids make fun of "the tall girl" behind her back, and it's even worse when it's time for photos - nobody can ever get her into the frame with her classmates, and so usually those photos don't have her in them. It's hard not to get jealous of the other girls her age as they go out clothes shopping and doing each others make up and all the followers they have on their social media accounts and the likes they get on their selfies. Jasmine just sits there and watches it all happen. She realized she couldn't change the way the other kids saw her, or treated her, and so she decided to put 100% of her energy and effort into her studies and school work. So, instead of shopping or taking selfies, or much of anything for that matter, Jasmine buried herself in her books, trying to become the best person she can be. So, over the years and through high school she has maintained amazingly good grades and this fall she is heading off to college to study economics . She feels good about who she is, how tall she is, and how she looks. She's one of those tall women now. And, she's learned something super valuable - you might not be able to change the way you look to others, but you can change your own image of yourself on the inside. She has learned that who you are is who you choose to be and NOT what others say you are. Jasmine is now proud to be the tall girl. - - - We love this true story. 3 year-old genius girl accepted into Mensa

03:07
3-year-old Arizona girl tops IQ test at 160 Three-year-old Alexis Martin is the youngest person in Arizona to join Mensa. Mensa is the international club with one criterion – an IQ in the top two percent of the world. The average person has an IQ of 100. Alexis’ is above 160. The doctors who tested Alexis said she tested so high, they couldn’t even calculate her IQ score. They say she is smarter than 99.9% of the world. Alexis started reading when she was two-years-old. “From 12-18 months old, we'd be driving around in the car and she would recite her bedtime story from the night before,” said her Dad Ian. “She didn’t just recite them, she recited them exactly.” It’s not just her 5th grade reading level that’s shocking, Alexis also taught herself Spanish via her parents’ iPad. Alexis’ parents know their daughter’s gift is amazing but they are also discovering new challenges. “Does she go into kindergarten early? We are kind of hesitant because we do want her to to get that social aspect,” said Ian. Alexis will never be able to go to a normal school, according to the doctor who helped test her. One of the reasons, often times, kids this brilliant have high anxiety and it's easier for them to be around similar children. “Anytime she learns a word and just picks it up through anything, she never ever uses it in the incorrect context, ever,” said Ian.

Because performed by Carole Wakem 1955

02:03
This is a song recorded in a studio by Carole Wakem in 1955 for her father on his birthday. It was one of his favorite songs. Lyrics - Edward Frederick Lockton (using the alias "Edward Teschemacher") Music - Helen Rhodes (pen name "Guy d'Hardelot") Because, you come to me, with naught save love, and hold my hand and lift mine eyes above, a wider world of hope and joy I see, because you come to me! Because you speak to me in accent sweet, I find the roses waking `round my feet, and I am led through tears and joy to thee, because you speak to me! Because God made thee mine, I'll cherish thee, through light and darkness through all time to be, and pray His love may make our love divine, because God made thee mine! ______________________________________ Written in 1902, this was first recorded by Enrico Caruso. It has the distinction of being one of the first major songs composed by a woman. A popular wedding song, Deanna Durbin performed this during the wedding scene in "Three Smart Girls Grow Up" and again in real life at her sister's wedding.

I’m really pretty. Like, beautiful. I know that might sound like bragging—and to be honest, it feels like bragging, because I don’t always feel beautiful—but enough people have told me I am that I’ve come to believe that is how most people perceive me. The attention I got for my appearance started when I was a baby. People would tell my mom, “Oh, you have such a beautiful baby.” “You should enter her in contests!” Pretty normal, right? I mean, people love babies. But it continued when I was a toddler. A modeling agent approached my mom in a restaurant when I was three to see if she could sign me. My mom said no—three was too young, she thought. But the attention didn’t stop as I grew older, and eventually my mom was asking me if I would consider a career in modeling, or acting. By that time, I was starting to feel really self-conscious. People commented on my looks so much. I hadn’t even hit puberty yet, and I was already getting cat-called on the street. I loved math and science, but nobody seemed to care that I was good at those things. Most adults I interacted with commented on how I’d be “beating the boys away with sticks” soon, or how I’d have no trouble finding a husband. When I was thirteen, I started a YouTube channel dedicated to robotics, one of my greatest loves. But in the comments section, people would leave comments like “ur hot,” or “shame you’re not legal.” Stuff that made me really uncomfortable. I started wearing baggy clothes to hide the curves I was developing. I kept my textbooks over my chest in the hallways at school. I started getting so anxious about when the next unwanted comment would come that I would spend breaks between classes in the restroom throwing up. I started showing up late for class so I didn’t have to walk through the halls when there was a crowd. And the other problem with being too pretty? People don’t like you. Other girls think you’re full of yourself. And guys only want you so they can brag to their friends about how they got with you. People also don’t think you’re smart. I was the butt of so many dumb blonde jokes, even though I was a great student. Once, my mom told me I was so pretty that I wouldn’t need to worry about going to college. I’d be able to snag a doctor, or a lawyer, and he would take care of me. That hurt more than anything. Between my self-consciousness and the way my classmates resented me, I didn’t have any close friends. And with the way people didn’t take my aspirations seriously, I started to doubt my own ability to have a career in robotics like I wanted. So I decided that if this was how the world was determined to see me—as just an object—then that’s what I’d be. I traded my baggy clothes for low-cut tops. I started wearing lipstick, and flirted with the guys who gave me attention, even if I knew they had girlfriends. I did not care about anyone. I’d gossip about the other girls who I knew had been gossiping about me for years. I stopped trying in my classes. A couple of teachers noticed, but I blew them off when they tried to talk to me. I wasn’t sure if this made me happy, but I keep doing it, perhaps because I was so tried of proving my real self to others. I didn’t stop. For Homecoming, I wore the sexiest dress I could find. A chaperone told me I’d violated the dress code, and handed me a sweater to cover up. Everyone looked at me and I could tell they were shocked. Perhaps for two main reasons. One, this doesn’t look like me, because that’s not my style. And second,, well, because I looked very attractive. However, twinges of my old self-consciousness resurfaced. Then a guy walked by and pinched my backside. That was the last straw. I couldn’t take it any longer! I started to cry uncontrollably. People began to stare at me, some of them snickering and whispering to each other. “What are you looking at?” I screamed at them. “Stop staring at me!” I couldn’t stop myself. I felt so hurt and confused and alone. I fled the dance and went out to my car. My hands were shaking so badly I was lucky I made it home in one piece. I locked myself in my room and refused to come out. It’s not like I could ever go back to school, after the scene I’d made. Credits: Music: http://www.epidemicsound.com/
