Ron Korb - Eastern Sea Route (Tokaido)

03:54
Ron Korb & Hiroki Sakaguchi Album: Japanese Mysteries Ron Korb is versed in different Japanese flutes (bamboo flute, shinobue, misatobue, ryuteki) as well as Western flute. The pieces were written by Korb and Hiroki Sakaguchi (keyboardist on the CD), except for arrangements of two Japanese traditional songs. Other contributors to the album are Senzan Tani and Yoko Tanaka, and the instruments used include the shakuhachi, koto, shamisen, taiko, guitars, synthesizers, and percussion. The pieces evoke themes of Japanese history ("The Story of Heike," "The Tale of Genji"), landmarks ("The Todaiji Temple"), or spirit ("Winter Night," "Autumn Rain"), yet most of them are also reminiscent of Western semi-classical types of pieces, as can be found among many Japanese composers. ~ Bruno Deschênes, Rovi

The Search For The Northwest Passage - Part 1 of 2 (Exploration Documentary) | Timeline

51:34
Check out our new website for more incredible history documentaries: HD and ad-free. http://bit.ly/2O6zUsK The Historical Story of Finding the Holy Grail of Exploration, the Northwest Passage The search for a sea route across the top of the world linking Europe to Asia - the fabled Northwest Passage - was one of the most difficult and dangerous in the history of exploration. 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of Roald Amundsen's discovery of the elusive route. The original 1845 expedition led by Sir John Franklin resulted in Franklin and his entire team of 128 men disappearing whilst searching for the passage. What happened to Franklin's expedition is one of the Arctic's most enduring mysteries, Was the expedition poisoned by its own supplies? Did some members of the expedition commit cannibalism or were they killed by the local Inuit? It wasn't until 1903, that an expedition finally found a way through which was lead by Roald Amundsen. His success owed much to the experience of those who had gone before him. But unlike them, he also understood that to survive in such conditions, he had to learn from the native Inuit. The skills Amundsen learnt in the Arctic would later pave the way for his successful assault on the South Pole. The two-part series concentrates on these two famous expeditions. The stories are told using dramatic reconstructions, CGI and documentary techniques. New information sheds light on what happened to Franklin's expedition and also shows how Amundsen was able to succeed when so many before had failed. Documentary first broadcast in 2005. http://www.undergroundworldnews.com MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. A wide range of threats and challenges to Russia's security is emerging lately in the country's Arctic zone, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told the ministry's board meeting on Wednesday. To counter the threats, the Defense Ministry should focus on developing military infrastructure in the area, Shoigu said. Late in 2014, the Joint Strategic Command was formed on the basis of the Northern Fleet, he said, adding that the Defense Ministry would build up troops in the Chukotka peninsula to guarantee the Northern Sea Route safety. http://tass.ru/en/russia/779663

Crisis in Ukraine : Russia Extends its Control over the Black Sea and Strategic Waterways

10:03
Crisis in Ukraine: Russia Extends its Control over the Black Sea and Strategic Waterways On May 15, President Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony of the Crimean Bridge – “a super 19-kilometre-long construction” linking Crimea to Russia’s Krasnodar region. This bridge is strategic and broader the economic and geopolitical implications in the region. The decision of Crimea to join the Russian Federation has strategic and geopolitical implications. The union of Crimea with Russia redefines both the geography as well as the geopolitical chessboard in the Black Sea basin. It constitutes a major setback for US-NATO, whose longstanding objective has been to integrate Ukraine into NATO with a view to undermining Russia, while extending Western military presence in the Black Sea basin. With the March 18, 2014 Treaty signed between Russia and Crimea, the Russian Federation will extend its control over the Black Sea as well over the Sea of Azov, the West coastline of which borders on Eastern Ukraine and the Donesk region. Under the agreement between Russia and Crimea announced by president Putin, two “constituent regions” of Crimea will join the Russian Federation: the “Republic of Crimea” and the “City of Sevastopol”. Both will have the status of “autonomous regions”. The status of Sevastopol as an autonomous entity separate from Crimea is related to the location of Russia’s Naval base in Sevastopol. Since the break-up of the Soviet Union, Russia retained its naval base in Sevastopol under a bilateral agreement with Ukraine. With the signing of the March 18th Treaty, that agreement is null and void. Sevastopol including the Russian naval base become part of an autonomous region within the Russian Federation. The naval base is no within Ukraine under a lease agreement. Moreover, Crimea’s territorial waters now belong to the Russian Federation. Russia now formally controls a much larger portion of the Black Sea, which includes the entire coastline of the Crimean peninsula. The Eastern part of Crimea –including the Kerch straits– are now under Russia’s jurisdiction control. On the Eastern side of the Kerch straits is Russia’s Krasnodar region and extending southwards are the port cities of Novorossiysk and Sochi. Novorossiysk is also strategic. It is Russia’s largest commercial port on the Black Sea, at the cross-roads of major oil and gas pipelines between the Black Sea and Caspian sea. Historically, the Kerch straits have played a strategic role. They constitute a gateway from the Black Sea to Russia’s major waterways including the Don and the Volga. During World War II, the Kerch peninsula occupied by Nazi Germany was an important point of transit by land and water. In the coldest months of Winter, it became an ice bridge linking Crimea to the Krasnodar region. The Kerch straits are about 5 kilometers in length and 4.5 km. wide at the narrowest point between the tip of Eastern Crimea and the peninsula of Taman. Kerch is a major commercial port linked to railway, ferry and river routes. the integration of Crimea into the Russian Federation means that Moscow is now in full control of the Kerch Straits linking the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov. The Ukrainian authorities are no longer in control of the port of Kerch. The bilateral agreement between Russia and Ukraine governing the maritime route through the Kerch straights has been scrapped. The straits constitute an entry point into Russia’s major river waterways. The Sea of Azov connects with the Don River and the Volga, through the Volga Don Canal. In turn, the Volga flows into the Caspian sea. The Kerch straits are strategic. The Kerch-Yenikalskiy Canal allows large vessels to transit from the Black sea to the Sea of Azov. the Kerch Straits link the Black Sea to the Volga which in turn connects to the Moscow river through the Volga-Moskva canal. Full control of the narrow Kerch straits by Russia ensures unimpeded maritime transit from the Black Sea to Russia’s capital as well as the maritime route to the Caspian Sea. The Russia-Ukraine 2013 agreement pertaining to the construction of the bridge had, for all purposes already been scrapped before March 16. Crimea’s union to Russia was already in the pipeline prior to the referendum, it was a fait accompli. Less than two weeks before the March 16 Referendum, at the height of the crisis in Ukraine, Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the state-road building corporation “Russian Highways” “to create a subsidiary company that will oversee the building of a bridge across the Kerch Strait”. This bridge would largely be geared towards train transport routes linking Western and Eastern Europe to the Caspian Sea basin, Kazakhstan and China. subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9IFRHTtYJFjhI5fBrLIJiQ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DNA997

Western Route: Setouchi, Japan

With Hiroshima's A-Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park, the Kintaikyo Bridge, Miyajima Island and the Itsukushima Shrine--there's a lot to see on this Western route through Setouchi and that is just the beginning. These iconic, breathtaking Japanese highlights taught me so much and also opened my eyes to the history of this island nation. We switched gears along the route and hopped on bikes along the Shimanami Kaido, crossing bridges and visiting beautiful small towns. One of my favorite parts was taking in all the hundreds of islands of this region from above! We flew in the Setouchi Seaplanes over some of the most magical islands in the Seto Inland Sea. And I can't forget the Fugu (or blowfish) that we tried or my first dip in the Dogo Onsen! This route will change your perspective of not just Japan, but the world! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To find out more about all the routes of the stunning region of Setouchi, Japan, please visit: http://setouchitrip.com/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks for watching my Get Lost in Setouchi, Japan series! Korean company launches shipping service on North Pole sea route 새 해상 실크로드 북극항로로 출항

01:29
Click "CC" for Scripts Subscribe to Arirang News! http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=arirangnews A Korean shipping company has launched a pilot service on a new Arctic route connecting Asia with Europe, becoming the first company to use a North Pole route. Our Sohn Jung-in reports. The Swedish icebreaker Stena Polaris set sail from the port of Ust-Luga on the Gulf of Finland in western Russia on Sunday carrying Korean cargo for Hyundai Glovis. The company is making use of a new Arctic Ocean route, becoming the first Korean shipper to send cargo through the North Pole. The ship is carrying 4,000 tons of naphtha to Korea. Using the Arctic route can cut the travel distance from Korea to northern European countries by 7-thousand kilometers and the duration of the journey by about 10 days compared to the time it takes using the conventional shipping route through the Indian Ocean and the Suez Canal. "If we increase the number of operations using the North Pole route and expand our various Arctic development projects, we feel this could bring about a commercial breakthrough in the near future." The nation's shipping business has high expectations for the new route, which could help reduce distribution costs. "We pushed ahead with this new route to strengthen our global marine competitiveness and Korea's vitalization of North Pole business." The Stena Polaris is scheduled to arrive back at Korea's Gwangyang Port in mid-October. Sohn Jung-in, Arirang News.

INDIA OPEN IRAN SEA ROUTE TO AFGHANISTAN

04:32
India is in talks with Iran to begin interim operations at a port in southeast Iran, officials say, proceeding cautiously on developing the facility at a time when the Trump administration has laid an aggressive new approach toward Tehran. New Delhi plans to send seven shipments of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar by the end of January. A first shipment arrived last week from India's western Kandla port, after years of political wrangling with Pakistan, government officials in New Delhi and Kabul said. The wheat will be trucked from Chabahar to western Afghanistan. India is expanding its economic diplomacy in Afghanistan, seeing itself as a regional power. But Pakistan says India is trying to use Afghanistan as a base to destabilise Pakistan, and has long blocked India from conducting bilateral trade with Afghanistan using its territory as transit. The shipments are meant to demonstrate the route's viability, officials said, and the plan is to broaden the cargo flow before the port is fully operational by the end of next year. "Things are moving quite well and as planned," Saurabh Kumar, Indian ambassador to Iran, said in an email. So far, the United States, keen for India to do more to help stabilise Afghanistan through economic and security assistance, has held off public criticism of renewed Indian efforts to develop the Iranian corridor. India's ties with Iran came up during U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's talks in New Delhi last month, and the top U.S. diplomat said America would not stand in the way of projects that help the Iranian people. But he warned that the administration would crack down on financial benefits accruing to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the country's most powerful security entity, blamed for fuelling regional proxy wars. GATEWAY India has framed its involvement in Chabahar's development as primarily about establishing a gateway to Afghanistan, more than Iran itself, Indian officials and a Western diplomatic source said. Washington has not intervened directly in the port's development, but, previously, India drastically cut back its oil imports from Iran, one of its main suppliers, in the face of international sanctions on Tehran for its suspected nuclear programme. "In general, I get the impression that conservative analysts in (Washington) DC have accepted the fact that India will maintain some form of relationship with Iran," said Jeff Smith, a south Asia expert at The Heritage Foundation in Washington. "They recognize that for India, Iran is more about a transport corridor to Afghanistan; that it has no interest in advancing Iran's agenda in the Middle East; and that whatever space India evacuates there will be filled by China." An Indian government source said India Global Ports Ltd (IGPL), a company set up by the government to lead the Chabahar project, had held talks with Iranian authorities to begin interim operations. In August, IGPL applied for permission to establish a company to run the port, the source said. The plan is for IGPL to build two new terminals, one for container vessels and one for multipurpose ships. After some delay, IGPL awarded contracts last month for port construction equipment such as cranes, the source said. Iran, meanwhile, had completed the construction of a jetty. "We are moving slowly, but there is movement on the port development despite U.S.-Iran relations deteriorating," said Meena Singh Roy, an expert on India-Iran ties at the government-funded Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses. importance of chabahar port to india, chabahar port iran map, chabahar port vs gwadar port, chabahar port india, chabahar port current status, chabahar port google map, port made in pakistan by china, sea port iran bandar abbas, cpec pakistan jobs, cpec map, cpec india, cpec completion date, cpec progress, china pakistan economic corridor map, china pakistan economic corridor and its implications, what is cpec short easy,, Disclaimer- This channel is for defence related news worldwide . China Threatens Multiple Western Nations Militarily over South China Sea

China Threatens Multiple Western Nations Militarily over South China Sea SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This morning’s key headlines from GenerationalDynamics.com China threatens multiple Western nations militarily over South China Sea China’s claims to the South China Sea are amazingly vacuous Radar towers, hangars, and five-story buildings seen on Fiery Cross Reef from an onboard camera on a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane. (NY Times) Two weeks ago, the HMS Albion, a British Royal Navy flagship amphibious assault ship, was traveling through the South China Sea, en route from Tokyo to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) in Vietnam. On August 31, the ship exercised its “freedom of navigation” rights as it passed near the Paracel Islands. Courts have ruled the Paracel Islands to be in international waters, but China has used military force to annex them, in clear violation of international law. China immediately launched a military challenge in the form of a frigate and two helicopters, although both sides remained calm. However, the Albion’s freedom of navigation operation continues to trigger hysterical, irrational threats by the Chinese. In the aftermath of the incident, China made the usual threats, and these statements have been growing more hysterical and threatening as time goes on. China’s embassy in London issued this statement: The [Paracel Islands are] an inherent part of the Chinese territory. In accordance with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Territorial Sea and the Contiguous Zone, the Chinese government promulgated the baseline of the territorial sea of the [Paracel Islands] in May, 1996. The relevant behavior of the British warship violated Chinese law and relevant international law and infringed upon China’s sovereignty. China is firmly opposed to this. We have lodged stern representations with the British side and expressed our strong dissatisfaction. The Chinese side strongly urges Britain to stop this kind of provocation lest it ... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Give Stan Rogers a space on the Canadian walk of fame, sign the petition here: http://www.petitiononline.com/GSRAS1/petition.html Thank you in advance for your support. -Give Stan A Star Foundation Chorus: Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea; Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage And make a Northwest Passage to the sea. Westward from the Davis Strait 'tis there 'twas said to lie The sea route to the Orient for which so many died; Seeking gold and glory, leaving weathered, broken bones And a long-forgotten lonely cairn of stones. (chorus) Three centuries thereafter, I take passage overland In the footsteps of brave Kelso, where his "sea of flowers" began Watching cities rise before me, then behind me sink again This tardiest explorer, driving hard across the plain. (chorus) And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west I think upon Mackenzie, David Thompson and the rest Who cracked the mountain ramparts and did show a path for me To race the roaring Fraser to the sea. (chorus) How then am I so different from the first men through this way? Like them, I left a settled life, I threw it all away. To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men To find there but the road back home again. (chorus)

Europe's Strategic Frontiers: The Arctic with Ambassador Professor Alyson Bailes

01:10:10
The “great thaw” underway in the Arctic has the potential to permanently open up the Northern Sea Route and connect East Asia and North-Western Europe for the first time in history. By 2040 it will be the shortest trade route between Europe and Asia and potential disputes over trade routes, maritime zones and resources that were previously inaccessible may emerge. What response should relevant European states fashion towards the Arctic? How is one of the most momentous geographical changes in history likely to affect Europe? Ambassador Professor Alyson Bailes is presently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Iceland, a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe (Bruges) and an Honorary Fellow at Somerville College, University of Oxford. Professor Bailes is also an Associate Fellow at Chatham House. From 2002-2007 Professor Bailes served as the Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Before this time, Professor Bailes had a distinguished career in the UK Diplomatic Service including postings in Hungary, the UK Delegation to NATO, Bonn, Beijing, Oslo and as British Ambassador to Finland. Among many other topics, Professor Bailes has published widely on regional security cooperation, Nordic/Baltic and West Nordic security and the emerging Arctic agenda. This was the fifth lecture of the IES Autumn Lecture Series 2014: "The Future of European Geostrategy" jointly organised by the Institute for European Studies-VUB and the Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations. A boat carrying nearly 60 Rohingya refugees heading to Malaysia has made a stop in Thailand because of bad weather. Few Rohingyas have tried to use southern sea routes since a crackdown on trafficking networks three years ago. In 2015 there was an exodus of Muslim-majority Rohingya from Rakhine State in western Myanmar, with an estimated 25,000 people fleeing violence and squalid camps they were forced into. Indonesia Establishes Military Base in South China Sea, but for What Purpose?

Indonesia Establishes Military Base in South China Sea, but for What Purpose? SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Indonesia this week has opened a military base at the southern edge of the South China Sea. The base is planned to house 1,000 troops. Sputnik has delved into the underlying reasons for this step and how it could affect the situation in the region. Some political scientists call the South China Sea a potential hot spot of the 21 century, comparable in explosiveness to the Middle East. The intersection of the interests of regional powers, long-standing territorial disputes, active attempts by the United States and other Western countries to play on the contradictions of the dispute's participants, the passage of strategic sea routes through the South China Sea, large hydrocarbon reserves — all this forces us to take seriously any steps to increase a country's military presence in this region. The militarisation of the South China Sea's waters carried out by one side, forces other states in the region to increase their military spending, complicates the search for compromises and increase the risks of accidental conflicts. Indonesia is not a party to territorial disputes in the South China Sea. However, Jakarta has expressed concern about possible claims by China to the Natuna Archipelago. Beijing has called these fears baseless. At the heart of Jakarta's suspicions are lingering concerns about the actions of China in the exclusive economic zone near the Natuna Archipelago. READ MORE: China Builds New Unidentified Structure in Disputed S China Sea — Think Tank From time to time, Chinese commercial fishing vessels are detained in these waters. However, in an interview with Sputnik, Chinese expert Shen Shishun from the China Institute of International Studies in Beijing said that he sees no reason for Indonesia to increase its military presence in the area. The expert argues that Indonesia and China are not parties to disputes in the South China Sea. Greedy shark choking on a sea lion on Coronation Beach, Geraldton, Western Australia

01:33
Click here for full version: http://bit.ly/1k7QB78 Sharks are called the apex predator of the seas, with sharp teeth and a voracious appetite. But just off the Australian coast, one learned the hard way what happens when it's eyes were bigger than it's stomach. It had spotted a tasty albeit plump meal in the form of a sea lion. Even though the creature was ⅓ the size of the shark, it still managed to swallow the water mammal whole. But that's where the problems began. Sharks must constantly swim to keep their gills flowing with water or else they will asphyxiate. The greedy White Pointer's meal blocked this flow with the seal stuck it its maw; literally choking to death on its blubbery catch. Video of the shark thrashing about on the sandy beaches of Western Australia was captured; it's vain attempt at dislodging the seal from its gullet. However it perished hours later, washing ashore on the beach. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Crying dog breaks the internet’s heart — but this sad dog story has a happy ending" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4prKTN9bYQc -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
