Fundamentals of Upstream Oil and Gas

09:23
Oil 101 - A FREE Introduction to the Oil and Gas Industry I this first of 10 modules, we introduce the learner to some key fundamentals of the Upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. The full Oil 101 course includes: +Introduction to Upstream +Introduction to Midstream +Introduction to Downstream +Introduction to Exploration +Introduction to Drilling +Introduction to Production +Introduction to Natural Gas +Introduction to Refining +Introduction to Supply and Trading +Introduction to Petroleum Product Marketing Learn More about Oil 101: http://www.ektinteractive.com/ http://www.ektinteractive.com/oil-101/ So, What is Upstream? Most oil and gas companies’ business structures are organized according to business segment, assets, or function. The upstream segment of oil and gas is also known as exploration and production, or E&P because it encompasses activities related to searching for, recovering, and producing crude oil and natural gas. Upstream is all about wells, where to locate them; how deep and how far to drill them; and how to design, construct, operate and manage them to deliver the greatest possible return on investment with the lightest, safest and smallest operational footprint. In fact, the E&P sector should probably be called the EDP sector - because “you can’t find oil if you don’t drill wells.” Exploration Obtaining the Lease Let’s start with exploration which involves the operator obtaining a lease and permission to drill from the owner of onshore or offshore acreage thought to contain oil or gas. Then the operator must conduct geological and geophysical surveys to select the first well site to explore for, and hopefully find, economic accumulations of oil or gas. This well is often called a “wildcat well.” Drilling is physically creating the “borehole” in the ground that will eventually become a productive oil or gas well. This work is typically done by rig contractors and service companies in the Oilfield Services business sector. On a wellsite, there can be as many as 30-40 different service contractors providing expertise to the operator. Wells can be relatively simple or unbelievably complex. Wells can totally vertical for miles or both deep and horizontal. There are also highly complex “J” and “S” configured wells with numerous branches, or laterals, emanating from the original, or “mother”, hole. These are called “deviated wells.” Production Finally, let’s discuss production, where reserves are “converted to cash” by maximizing the recovery of hydrocarbons from subsurface reservoirs. Essentially, production is efficiently bringing the hydrocarbons to the surface and treating them as needed to make them marketable. So that’s the basics of E&P. We will drill deeper into each of these operations in the complete Oil 101 course at a later date. Now, let’s talk about unconventional resources, clearly the hottest topic in oil and gas over the last decade. Unconventional Future of Oil and Gas Unconventional resources are defined as any resource extracted, or produced, by any method other than the traditional vertical or slightly deviated well. The three main sources of technological breakthroughs that have made unconventional developments profitable include: Horizontal drilling Hydraulic fracturing Subsea engineering (especially deep water production)

Crude Oil Distillation Process Part 1

10:15
An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas. Oil refineries are typically large sprawling industrial complexes with extensive piping running throughout, carrying streams of fluids between large chemical processing units. In many ways, oil refineries use much of the technology of, and can be thought of as types of chemical plants. The crude oil feedstock has typically been processed by an oil production plant. There is usually an oil depot (tank farm) at or near an oil refinery for storage of bulk liquid products.

Learn Oil and Gas with Animations

03:33
- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips - Oil and gas are generated from a source rock, organic matter buried in the depths of the earth. Once formed, they climb back towards the surface. On their way, cap rocks can impede their progress and they accumulate in reservoir rocks. Here they constitute hydrocarbon fields, which can be identified by interpreting seismic data (a sort of echography). The data is obtained with the help of a seismic ship. To confirm the interpretations of seismic data, two types of drilling gear exist. Each is adapted to a range of depth of water (down to more than 2500 meters). The platform seen here is a semi-submersible, which floats and retains its stabilised position by means of anchors fixed on the seabed. Platforms at sea are used not only for drilling but also for the production of hydrocarbons. This production consists of the separation of oil, gas and water, before the oil and gas is taken by pipeline towards a mainland terminal. Where it is impossible or too expensive to link the field to the coast by a pipeline, an FPSO ship is used (Floating Production Storage and Offloading barge). Onboard, the hydrocarbons and the water are separated. The oil is stored prior to being loaded on tankers and the gas is re-injected into the reservoir rocks. Gas from a field is taken to land through an underground gasoduct to a processing plant. There, if the gas is to be transported by sea, it is converted into liquid obtained by cooling it down to --163°C. When it arrives at the plant terminal, the liquid natural gas (LNG) is returned to its gaseous state in a re-gasification plant, before being introduced into the local gasoduct network. The LNG is stored in tanks before re-gasification. The crude oil is transported in a petroleum tanker, the capacity of which can attain 200 000 tons. It is commonly called a "super- tanker". The terminals capable of receiving such giants are few and far between. The ships used to transport the crude oil produced on an FPSO ship are of a much smaller capacity. The crude oil, before being refined, is stored in the port in the large capacity tanks. The natural gas is preserved in reservoirs (artificial or natural). It is ready to be injected by pumping into the gasoduct network for industrial and domestic use or as fuel in power-generating stations. As far as the crude oil goes, it is transported by oleoduct to the refinery. There it undergoes a number of transformations and blending. A variety of finished products are obtained (LPG, petrol, kerosene, diesel ...), or naphtha, which will be used as the basis for the composition of plastic products by complex petroleum chemistry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oilvips Twitter: https://twitter.com/oilvips And Don't forget to subscribe to our channel

Upstream vs Downstream

05:53
Oil 101 - Introduction to the Oil and Gas Industry http://www.ektinteractive.com http://www.ektinteractive.com/oil-101 http://www.ektinteractive.com/upstream-vs-downstream What is the difference between Upstream and Downstream in Oil and Gas? The collapse of oil prices and subsequent layoffs in the Upstream oil and gas sector has led to an increase in people asking, “What is the difference between Upstream and Downstream?” We have received this question from our members of our learning community, seen the question raised Linkedin discussions, and you can even see that ‘Upstream vs Downstream’ is a growing inquiry in Google searches. You are not alone! The oil and gas industry is like a see-saw. The low oil prices that are crushing upstream economics right now are a boon to downstream and petrochemical operations. Just look at the stock prices of upstream E&P operators (like Continental Resources) versus pure refiners (like Valero). Yet when most people think of the oil and gas industry, they think of upstream – searching for oil, drilling wells, and getting hydrocarbons out of the ground. There is much less common knowledge about the midstream and downstream segments of the industry. Maybe it’s just because they are more regulated and less exciting. And yes, the wildcatter holds a special place in our imaginations. What is Upstream? Most oil and gas companies’ business structures are segmented and organized according to business segment, assets, or function. The upstream segment of the oil and gas business is also known as the exploration and production (E&P) sector because it encompasses activities related to searching for, recovering and producing crude oil and natural gas. The upstream oil and gas segment is all about wells: where to locate them; how deep and how far to drill them; and how to design, construct, operate and manage them to deliver the greatest possible return on investment with the lightest, safest and smallest operational footprint. Exploration The exploration sector involves obtaining a lease and permission to drill from the owners of onshore or offshore acreage thought to contain oil or gas, and conducting necessary geological and geophysical (G&G) surveys required to explore for (and hopefully find) economic accumulations of oil or gas. Drilling There is always uncertainty in the geological and geophysical survey results. The only way to be sure that a prospect is favorable is to drill an exploratory well. Drilling is physically creating the “borehole” in the ground that will eventually become an oil or gas well. This work is done by rig contractors and service companies in the Oilfield Services business sector. Production The production sector of the upstream segment maximizes recovery of petroleum from subsurface reservoirs. Production activities include efficiently recovering the oil and gas in a producing filed using primary, secondary and tertiary, or enhanced oil recovery (also referred to as improved oil recovery). Plug and abandonment marks the end of the productive life of a well. That event can occur anywhere from a few years after the well is drilled to five or six decades later. What is Downstream? Processing, transporting and selling refined products made from crude oil is the business of the downstream segment of the oil and gas industry. Key downstream business sectors include: Oil Refining Supply and Trading Product Marketing and Retail The downstream industry provides thousands of products to end-user customers around the globe. Many products are familiar such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, heating oil and asphalt for roads. Others are not as familiar such as lubricants, synthetic rubber, plastics, fertilizers and pesticides. The downstream segment is a margin business. Margin is defined as the difference between the price realized for the products produced from the crude oil and the cost of the crude delivered to the refinery. Although the price of crude sets the absolute level of product prices, it may or may not affect refining or marketing margins. Downstream margins tend to be reduced, or squeezed, when crude price increases often cannot be recovered in the marketplace. On the other hand, margins tend to hold, or even increase, when crude prices drop and the marketplace more slowly adjusts to these lower crude prices. We’ve all seen this in action lately! The downstream segment includes complex and diverse activities including manufacturing, petrochemical refining, distribution, and retail. A global perspective is important because of the global nature of the energy supply chain as well as the impact of supply and demand on both feedstock and product prices. ------------------------------------------------------------------ JOIN THE OIL 101 LEARNING COMMUNITY TODAY! http://www.ektinteractive.com/oil-101

Top 10 Highest Oil Producing Countries in the World 2017

04:06
Top 10 Oil Producing Countries in the World 2017 This is a list of countries by oil production, as compiled from the U.S. Energy Information Administration database for calendar year 2016, tabulating all countries on a comparable best-estimate basis. Compared with shorter-term data, the full-year figures are less prone to distortion from periodic maintenance shutdowns and other seasonal cycles. The volumes in the table represent crude oil and lease condensate, the hydrocarbon liquids collected at or near the wellhead. The volumes in the table do not include biofuel. They also do not include the increase in liquid volumes during oil refining ("refinery gain"), or liquids separated from natural gas in gas processing plants (natural gas liquids).[1] Under this definition, total world oil production in 2016 averaged 80,622,000 barrels per day. Approximately 68% came from the top ten countries, and an overlapping 44% came from the fourteen current OPEC members, highlighted with blue shading in the table below. For many years, the top three producers have been (alphabetically) Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. Each of these countries experienced major production declines at different times in the past, but since 2014 all three have been producing near their peak rates of 9 to 11 million barrels per day. 1 Russia 10,551,497 2 Saudi Arabia (OPEC) 10,460,710 3 United States 8,875,817 4 Iraq (OPEC) 4,451,516 5 Iran (OPEC) 3,990,956 6 China 3,980,650 7 Canada 3,662,694 8 United Arab Emirates (OPEC) 3,106,077 9 Kuwait (OPEC) 2,923,825 10 Brazil 2,515,459 I hope you will like video, if you do hit that Like button and dont forget to Comment and Subscribe. The Largest Oil Rig in The World

19:43
Perdido is the deepest floating oil rig (platform) in the world at a water depth of about 2450 meters operated by the Shell Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico. The Perdido is located in the Perdido fold belt which is a rich discovery of crude oil and natural gas that lies in water that is nearly 8000 feet deep. The platform's peak production will be 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. At 267 meters, the Perdido is nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower. An oil rig is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well. Inside Oil Tankers - Documentary Films

45:04
CLICK HERE - http://activeterium.com/1DCR - FOR MORE FREE DOCUMENTARIES Inside Oil Tankers - Documentary Films All over the world, tanker operations are constantly moving. Oil tankers are ships specially designed for the bulk transport of either unrefined crude oil or petrochemicals. Their size classes can range from coastal or inland tankers of a few thousand metric tons of deadweight (DWT) to a colossal amount of 550,000 DWT. These giant specialized ships transport approximately two billion metric tons of oil across the sea every year. Crude oil is one of the world's most consumed sources of energy. Oil tankers, therefore, play a significant role in the way the country operates. Because of the products they are built to carry, without proper maintenance, these mammoth ships of black gold can also pose a threat on the environment. To ensure that an oil tanker does not severely impact the environment, oil companies must employ an expert and highly experienced ship management service to oversee tanker operations. They must also routinely check their oil tankers for maintenance purposes. Fixing the smallest dent, scratch or crack can mean the difference between safe sailing across miles of seawater and a devastating oil spill. On board the ship, safety measures should be strictly imposed. Because of the hazardous - and often flammable - nature of the materials being transported, the possession of flammable objects should be avoided if not prohibited entirely to avoid accidents, which can threaten the lives of the people on the ship, as well as the surrounding marine life. Whether at sea or anchored at a dock, tanker operations and safety measures should still be strictly implemented to prevent the ship from negatively affecting the environment.

ReOil: Getting crude oil back out of plastic

05:31
https://blog.omv.com/en/reoil-getting-crude-oil-back-out-of-plastic Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could fuel our cars with garbage? Plastic is a particularly multifaceted material that’s bursting with energy. And yet we mostly throw it away or burn it. A better solution would certainly be to use it to produce fuel or usable plastic – and that’s precisely what OMV is working on. OMV’s innovative ReOil technology is set to help ensure that plastic production is no longer a cul-de-sac that ends in waste incineration. This will facilitate an intelligent and sustainable circular economy for plastics. Used plastics are inserted in the unit and fed into a smelting facility. A solvent is then added. This liquid makes the viscous mass turn as thin as water, which in turn enhances heat conductivity. This makes the plastic easier to break down into its constituent parts. Once the process is complete, the liquid that was added previously is re-extracted and ready to be used again. At the end of the process you have two main products. One part is usable gas, one part is known as Syncrude, i.e. crude oil. With this the products can then be processed in the refinery to make gasoline, diesel and polymer – itself a base product for plastic. This means that if you fill up at OMV today or use plastic packaging, it has probably already had something to do with ReOil. Projects like this underline the importance of Schwechat as one of Europe’s largest and most cutting-edge refineries. ------------------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to the OMV YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/OMV Follow our Blog: http://blog.omv.com Follow us on Instagram: http://instagram.com/omv Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/omv Follow us on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/company/omv Follow us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/omv Follow us on XING: http://www.xing.com/company/omv

Cracking a hydrocarbon

07:45
You can find instructions for this experiment at http://www.rsc.org/learn-chemistry/resource/res00000681/cracking-hydrocarbons Liquid paraffin (a mixture of alkanes of chain length C20 and greater) is vaporised and passed over a hot pumice stone catalyst. A gaseous product is obtained which is flammable and which will decolorise bromine water and acidified permanganate ions. The same apparatus and method can be used to dehydrate ethanol.
How to Purify by Recrystallization

05:07
We show how to purify aluminum nitrate and strontium nitrate by recrystallization. This is important because those two substances must be extremely pure for our upcoming video on making glow in the dark powder. First make aluminum nitrate from our previous video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4Ha1SJrazY Dissolve the dry aluminum nitrate in water and filter off any insoluble materials. We could not filter it off before it dried in the previous video because the particles at that stage are much too small. It needs crystallize once to aggregate into particles large that can be filtered. After filtering, dry off the aluminum nitrate. The desiccator bag might be useful here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJFfS_YbbYI After drying, carefully weigh out the crystals. Then take that mass and add in 20% mass of water. So if you have 50g like me, you add 10g of water (or 10mL since density is 1g/mL). It won't all dissolve, so carefully heat the mixture until it dissolves. Then cover it and let it cool down. Eventually it'll crystallize out purer crystals. After the mixture cools to room temperature, and left for a few hours. The liquid is poured off and discarded, it has the impurities and is not needed. The crystals are again weighed and once again they are recrystallized with 20% water. Once this is done. Dry the final product. I started with 50g and ended up with 17g. But now it's very pure. Better than 99% Strontium nitrate also needs to be purified. But it's solubility doesn't change that much with temperature so we'll have to purify by slow evaporation recrystallization rather than thermal cycle recrystallization. First, make strontium nitrate like our previous video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rd8b6wNnKA Once again, dissolve it in water and filter it. Then let it crystallize. But before it dries completely, let the liquid reduce to about 20% of it's saturated volume. So I started with a saturated solution of 10mL of strontium nitrate, i then waited until it evaporated down to 2mL of fluid. The crystals are not included in this assessment. Then discard the liquid. Repeat the recrystallization process. Once again, use the desiccator bag to obtain extremely dry chemicals. We are now ready to produce glow-in-the-dark powder.

HOW AN OIL REFINERY WORKS SHELL OIL HISTORIC FILM 71862

21:04
Support Our Channel : https://www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Made in the 1950s by the Shell Oil Company, "Refinery Process" goes behind the scenes at a huge oil refinery to show how crude oil is transformed into finished products. The film uses a combination of animation and live-action to present the story in a simple and entertaining style, how crude oil is separated into major fractions or "cuts". It then describes how complicated molecules are "cracked" into simpler molecules of the lighter, more valuable products by the application of heat and pressure. This film is one of a series made by Shell as part of its public relations efforts. All the films in the series are well-made and use innovative techniques for their time. The company spent over $1 million dollars in the 1950s -- roughly $10 million in today's world -- on its film library. An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful products such as petroleum naphtha, gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas. Oil refineries are typically large, sprawling industrial complexes with extensive piping running throughout, carrying streams of fluids between large chemical processing units. In many ways, oil refineries use much of the technology of, and can be thought of, as types of chemical plants. The crude oil feedstock has typically been processed by an oil production plant. There is usually an oil depot (tank farm) at or near an oil refinery for the storage of incoming crude oil feedstock as well as bulk liquid products. An oil refinery is considered an essential part of the downstream side of the petroleum industry. Food processing is the transformation of raw ingredients, by physical or chemical means into food, or of food into other forms. Food processing combines raw food ingredients to produce marketable food products that can be easily prepared and served by the consumer. Food processing typically involves activities such as mincing and macerating, liquefaction, emulsification, and cooking (such as boiling, broiling, frying, or grilling); pickling, pasteurization, and many other kinds of preservation; and canning or other packaging. (Primary-processing such as dicing or slicing, freezing or drying when leading to secondary products are also included.) A machine is a tool containing one or more parts that uses energy to perform an intended action. Machines are usually powered by chemical, thermal, or electrical means, and are often motorized. Historically, a power tool also required moving parts to classify as a machine. However, the advent of electronics has led to the development of power tools without moving parts that are considered machines. U.S. Has Abundant Crude, Not Enough Gasoline, Refined Product - Oil & Gas Investment Bulletin

09:17
Keith Schaefer of the Oil and Gas Investment Bulletin discusses all things crude and gas related with Tommy Humphreys at the 2012 Toronto Resource Investment Conference. Correcting what is perhaps a common misconception, namely that there is no reason for high gasoline prices in the U.S. because there is such an abundance or "ocean" of crude oil. Although there is a good amount of crude oil available, Schaefer explains that the majority of that remains unrefined and is exported because of the high price that it fetches on the market as Brent crude. This lack of gasoline and refined products leads to higher gas prices sensitive to geopolitical risk. Shaefer also gives us his take on the natural gas market, and energy and resource stocks at large. Kitco News, October 8, 2012. --- Agree? Disagree? Crude Oil

02:17
Crude oil is a naturally occurring, unrefined petroleum product composed of hydrocarbon deposits and other organic materials. Crude oil can be refined to produce usable products such as gasoline, diesel and various forms of petrochemicals. It is a nonrenewable resource, also known as a fossil fuel, which means that it can't be replaced naturally at the rate we consume it and is therefore a limited resource.

How To Easily Remove Oil From Fabrics/Clothing

10:19
A great tip for mechanics. Learn the best way to remove new or used motor oil from virtually all clothing/fabrics, as well as food oils without the use of expensive laundry products which usually do not remove all the oil. ALWAYS test on an inconspicuous area first! Excessive brushing on colored fabrics can result in a faded area once the oil has been removed. Always use a VERY soft tooth brush, and blot the fabric more to avoid that problem. **For GREAT deals(Usually cheaper than EBAY) on neodymium magnets, Fidget Spinners, electronics, drones, automotive tools, household items, phone accessories, locksmith tools, & much more, please visit the link below and SAVE IT AS A BOOKMARK on your computer or smartphone to Banggood for future purchases. CBD Oil: How To Make Cannabis Oil at Home - Easily!

05:41
Would you prefer to make your own cannabis extract at home? At Endoca, we'll show you how to make Cannabis oil/CBD oil at home, EASILY! At Endoca, we produce the highest quality CBD oil and Cannabinoid extracts, using state of the art lab and GMP procedure to create a true medicine that is helping thousands of people all around the world. In this video, however, we step out from the lab and we explain to you how to make this medical Cannabis extractor CBD oil extracts at home. This is a more refined and safe procedure than the one explained by Rick Simpson who was the first person to make Cannabis oil or RSO Oil popular in the mainstream media. If you can't buy the extract we make at endoca.com, make your own natural medicine using Cannabis. What you will need in order to make your own Cannabis oil are the following: Cannabis or hemp plant material (dried and shredded), glass bowls, plastic spoon, alcohol (over 60% pure), Sieve, coffee machine, several Coffee filters (depending on how much material you have to process), water distiller or rice cooker or pan and hot plate paperclip, cigarette lighter. Make your own Cannabis oil at home, EASILY by following few easy steps. The first step consists of putting the cannabis plant material into a bowl and covering it with cold alcohol. Next, you will need to stir for three minutes with the plastic spoon and then sieve the mixture into another bowl. Then, filter the mixture through a coffee filter and distil the liquid until 80% of the alcohol volume has gone. If you use a rice cooker or hot plate to evaporate the alcohol, it is better to do this outside. Don't forget however that the fumes are very flammable and could explode. Afterward, pour the remaining liquid into a small bowl and make sure you heat on the coffee machine hot plate for 24 hours in order to remove the remaining alcohol. The final step is to take a paperclip, dip it in the oil and try lighting it with a flame. If a spark occurs there is still alcohol left so you should place it back on the coffee machine for a few more hours. If you would like to store the oil, draw it up into a medical syringe and keep it in your fridge. Cannabis oil / CBD oil is our specialty at Endoca. Shampoo as Engine Oil? Let's see what happens!

07:14
How will Head & Shoulders perform as an engine oil substitute? There have been hundreds of comments suggesting that Head & Shoulders, a “high viscosity, zinc” shampoo, will beat any oil additive or oil product on the lubricity tester. In this video, I compare Head & Shoulders to Bestline, since I have some of this product available. I could have included many other additives, including MotorKote, which is equally, if not more impressive than Bestline on the lubricity tester. Additionally, Head & Shoulders was compared to 10W-30 motor oil at -20F to assess flow characteristics in arctic conditions. Finally, Head & Shoulders was used in an engine to determine how it performs as an engine oil substitute. Will this high viscosity, zinc-filled shampoo demonstrate superior lubrication and heat dissipating characteristics? Will it also reduce internal friction, a common characteristic of zinc-based lubricants? Let’s find out! Hope you enjoy the video!
