This has to be my favorite live footage of Magic Sam. He's playing Earl Hooker's guitar and the only reason I know that is from an out of print Rounder Records collection of Earl. Love it!

True talent, what an amazing voice too.... but I guess autotune is where its at these days

One of the real West Side greats and he left us far too soon. This video is a real gem - the performance and the interview preceding it. Thanks very much!

This video is a revelation seeing that finger picks. I was trying to play All your Love with a pick. Its an easy song with the chords. I and was basically playing it. But it still wasn't sounding right. It was those up strokes with the finger that I was missing.

Sam's tone, feel, and playing at 0.48 through the entire All Your Love is just incredible. Incredible. This had me from the first note/ riff. Seeing playing like this makes me forget just about all pedals and effects. This is all heart, soul, and fingers..... Both touching and inspiring. Huge thanks for posting! Sam wasn't with us long, but he is a legend and will not be forgotten.

Been playin guitar for years but I just heard about this guy last week so I came to YouTube lookin for him and I'm glad I did! OK, the 1st song is DEFINATELY the basis for Gary Clark Jrs conversion of Albert Collins "If Trouble was Money" which I like enough that we are covering that in the band we are putting together now! But that second song is AMAZING and its also WAY over my head! His style and sound are so unique that I doubt if I will ever be able to do it justice!!! I will challenge myself to learn that but I'm sure it will take me awhile to sort it out!!!
Manly Seifert (8 months ago)
He's sort of like a musical Muhammad Ali - he's got a lot of innate speed and skill.

Did that drummer invent the whole 'wallet on the snare' thing?
Steve Fanger (1 year ago)
52 people got concrete in their ears & lead in their hearts. We don't need your negativity. You must've clicked on this by mistake looking for a magician pulling rabbits out of hats. This is pure magic of a totally different order! Chicago blues at it's finest & Magic Sam was one hell of a guitar picker & singer with a soul to match Otis Rush & Buddy Guy. Phenomenal stuff!

Nobody played like Magic Sam.What a tone!He went too early.
Daniel Lee (1 year ago)
one of the masters...make sure to check out 'live at the avant garde', perhaps the best live recording from that period to capture the magic of the show (credit to the engineer too). rip sam, taken too soon.

Lyle Swann (1 year ago)
One of the finest live performances EVER! Smooth, soulful voice with raw skill on the guitar. I remember first seeing this, I just came to watch All Your Love, but Lookin' Good instantly hooked me and never ceases to make me shake about, I want it played at my funeral (this rockin' version) for sure. Magic Sam was the best of the best bluesmen.

OMG It just get better and better every time i listen to this! Maybe my favorite of all time. I have been playing guitar for decades and it took decades to hear something so profound. Ill keep trying to learn this but Im not sure I will come close enough to pull it off. -Still blown away! (peace all)

All of the American folk blues series concerts are the best complete documentation of most of the great pretty and post war blues men and women. This is the only live footage of magic Sam I've found playing probably his two most famous songs in this series I think it has the only live footage of Earl hooker.

Fake Appellation (2 years ago)
An absolute master of the guitar and a superb singer who died before his time. Using Earl Hooker"s guitar. I agree with other poster very late 1960s.
jab3785 (2 years ago)
I assumed that was Sam since I knew he played without a pick in a very distinctive style.
Marsha Rupe (2 years ago)
I love the tone on that guitar. I'm assuming it's borrowed.
ross buttz (1 year ago)
earl hooker probably "borrowed" it from someone else. Dude was a notorious kleptomaniac.
