Have you done any tutorials on how to do this using inkscape? I know you have done a tutorial using text but not with a png logo. Cheers

Hi Nick? May I download your videos if there is no problem?

In gimp 2.10.6 there is a new drop shadow filter that works different: i cannot apply drop shadow bellow selections, it must be with a new layer with the inverted shape. I know that the legacy filter is still available, don't know how long, but you could create a review of this effect using the new filter? It may help us to adapt to the new drop shadow

Thanks for the great tutorial! Can you explain what negative space is?
Maddy-MWM Media (9 months ago)
Negative space is an artistic term meaning the empty space in and around your object. :) In this case, it's the space around and inside the outlines of the logo.

For anyone using GIMP 2.9 or 2.10 and thinking this doesn't work. It does. You just now need to select "Drop Shadow (legacy)". It's also under "Filters/Light and Shadow". It seems they changed the way Drop Shadow works and the new DS will not put a shadow on the inside of a selection. Thankfully the old method is still available, now marked as "legacy". Hope this helps someone.

Nick, brilliant! Will check out your "Carved Wood" Inkscape too. A picture is worth a thousand words in this part of the world when trying to explain things. West

Ubuntu with the Vertex Dark theme and Numix Circle icon pack
Harry McKinnon (1 year ago)
What theme are you using in that video. I saw your video based on themes but they look different to the one you using there. Where can I get it?
SharesFyve (1 year ago)
thanks for the guide, had to play around with the drop shadow a little since there was a lot more negative space in my image but i think it turned out nicely: http://i.imgur.com/yDCmnzb.jpg

Sir, in some circles you are a rockstar!
Rebecca Lusk (1 year ago)
great video but it would be nice if you explained a little more about what you are doing as you are doing it. I am a beginner so maybe your video isnt meant for me. I can replicate your process but dont have a very good understanding of what it is I am actually doing. What is alpha to selection?

Great Tutorial as always! Could you please make an Inkscape tutorial on how to make an object have a gloss effect. Like chrome but colored. Would be very nice!
Norman Abrams (2 years ago)
Hey Nick how can I added multiple colors into one object like a heart for example. I've been trying to find an inkscape tutorial but with no luck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8qSTqo6wrI
Ron Brooks (2 years ago)
I would like your opinion, Nick...would this effect be easier in Inkscape? And by the way, good video.
Logos By Nick (2 years ago)
No it's much easier in GIMP
Erica Payne (2 years ago)
how did you get your screen to look like that? Is it the computer software or a program that makes it so that your icons like chrome and documents are on the side?
Logos By Nick (2 years ago)
It's the operating system I'm using - Ubuntu with the Vertex Dark theme and Numix Circle icon pack
Juan Santiago (2 years ago)
Wow! Thought it was going to be more difficult than that. Thank you so much!
Nebucad LaVey (2 years ago)
Thank you Nick, this video is definitely one of the easiest tutorial for wood carving. You're using the layer option. you won't see this very often in a tutorial and that's why i like it.

Yet another great tutorial. Thank you for all the work you put into these! It would be great to see some GIMP Explained videos (same as you did with Inkscape)
Dani El (2 years ago)
Man, love your videos. A week ago I started watching and actually ended making a logo for a group I belong to. Hoping to make it into a t-shirt soon. One thing I would like to see you do is a website mockup either in gimp or Inkscape, which is why I found your channel. Thanks for the awesome tutorials and success to you good man.

i swear same here... lol Amazing right
ekikoo (2 years ago)
Great stuff! I wish at some point you'd make a tutorial for an imaginary festival poster in Inkscape. Similar to what google image search finds with "festival vector poster" but simplistic enough to fit in a tutorial!
Jet Starz (2 years ago)
More gimp please, never knew you can use a drop shadow like that lol
