Intelligence is broken down into 9 types of intelligence, also called the nine domains of intelligence. The theory of multiple intelligences was first theorized by developmental psychologist Howard Gardner, in 1983.
What other scientists thought were only soft-skills, Gardener realized were actually different types of intelligence. As it turns out, being good at math or languages are not the only two ways to be smart! The 9 types of intelligence as theorized by Gardner in his book called Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, is a great tool to find your individual strengths and weaknesses. By learning the theory behind Gardner’s studies, you get to know yourself a little bit better. However, by simply understanding your strengths, it shouldn’t limit you through labeling yourself to a specific intelligence. Instead, it should empower you to recognize your weaknesses, as well as to improve them.
When you hear the word “intelligence,” what is the first thing that comes to mind? Do you think of someone with a super high IQ? Someone who’s book smart? Street smart? Intelligence can mean different things to different people. In fact, the word “intelligence” is a fairly broad term.
If you want to dive a little deeper into this topic, be sure to check out our videos on How to know if you are Smart: https://youtu.be/BqYdVTIeJl0 as well as The 10 Struggles only Highly Intelligent People have: https://youtu.be/TyhlS-FP-Qo. You may find the information quite useful.
Moving on… The 9 types of intelligence according to Gardener are:
Naturalist (nature smart), Musical (sound smart), Logical-mathematical (number/reasoning smart), Existential (life smart), Interpersonal (people smart), Bodily-kinesthetic (body smart), Linguistic (word smart), Intrapersonal (self-smart), Spatial (picture smart).
We all have strengths and weaknesses in different areas, and have the ability to discover, harness and develop our strengths. Yes, talent is intelligence combined with effort! Many talented people spend a great deal of time honing their intellect until it becomes an apparently effortless endeavor on their part.
To understand your own intelligence, watch this video about the 9 types of intelligence. You’ll be able to have a basic understanding of which intelligence you are strong at, and which areas you may need to work a bit more. musical intelligence, linguistic intelligence, spatial intelligence and liquified intelligence you missed it. It is a type of intelligence in which a person uses his knowledge that he gained to solve a problem
I have #4= Existential intelligence.
Can you have more than one? I would assume so.
⭐⭐⭐Outstanding vid. 👍 What do you have on Meyers-Briggs personality types? I'm an INFJt Empath & (not surprisingly) I'm always curious. 😉✌
I do believe that all people in the world have more than one of these nine intelligence. I'm gonna count myself as an example. I'm musically inclined that i could even compose a whole song or piano ballad without using a piano or any musical instruments at all, rather, using my humming skills only. Also, i have a FB group chat which i named in Filipino "BinatangErmitanyoInsights'' (Insights of a lad hermit), a group chat where i use my intra and interpersonal skills in giving advises. I could even count myself as highly philosophical. Moreover, i also have a deep interest in the world of martial arts that it could come to the point of creating my own combat style, which could count myself as highly kinetic or athletic. Lastly, when it comes on spatial ability, I've got the nerve! It delights me whenever i draw images of nature and animals, angels and demons, and a wide sort of topics. I'm so blessed. But it would be better to say that WE ARE ALL BLESSED. Thank you Brainy Dose for confirming all these to me.
Aren't interpersonal and intrapersonal like one kind of intelligence? Understanding yourself as a human being and others in general? And shouldn't linguistic include ability to learn foreign languages?
I had really hoped to use this video in my classroom to help my students recognize their own intelligence and to get them to think differently about learning. I liked the information shared, the quality and the pace. However, the video lacks diversity and representation matters so I'll have to go with something else.
Why would existentialism be a form of intelligence?
It’s just a matter of asking questions that you want to understand. So should that just be like a subset of logical intelligence or intrapersonal intelligence?
It's all about white and grey matter in the brain; for example, guys tend to have a lot of grey matter, and they're good at mathematics; women tend to have a lot of white matter, and they're good at languages.
The word intelligence is lossing it's meaning. If humanity could exist in peace and harmony with each other one another what would that be called? It could never happin so is there even a word for it? As you can tell I'm not one of these fortunate people.
